Brake Pedal Hissing Noise

Hi

i have a LCR. Over the last couple of weeks i have got a noise coming from my brake pedal when i apply the brakes, sound like a foot pump. when i apply the brake and i cant go no further cos the pedal gets hard the noise stops. im thinking brake servo but the garage seems to think it needs to be lubed up. what else could it be i have checked the vacum hose from the manifold and it looks ok. i would like to get this sorted asap really i dont want the brakes to go all of a sudden.

any help would be great

Search for hissing, all points to the brake servo.

ive just been to a local gargae and they say it could be a grommet thats in the servo can this be replaced or do you need a new servo unit?

dead servo, they're not servicable,

mine died early part of the year, hard pedal, hissing,

a bugger to replace but it can be done by dropping the engine from its mounts by 6-8 inches on the drive,

Speaking from experience, expect cut knuckles,

i take it you have no noise now? i have been told they do make a little hissing noise which is normal and to be expected?

Mine makes the same hissing altho changed pads and it's not as bad now well dowesnt seem to do it , going to change the servo soon tho

If its a constant hiss when you press the pedal its goosed,

if its just on takeup its doing what it should be doing

I thought all servo assisted brakes hissed a little when initially hitting the middle peddle?

they hiss on the initial take up, but shouldnt hiss constant,

if its hissing constant, at tickover it'll also cause lumpy running, since in effect its a vac leak,

thanks for your replys. even when the car is on tick over or im driving and i apply the brakes it still does it.

I have the same hissing, is it common, the brakes work fine!But like danny, i dont want these to suddenly give up, could this be linked to boost problems?

my car has been in the garage this week have a cam chain tensinoer gasket being done and i have asked them to check it out, they have said its fine so thats two garages now.
