Broken Folding Mirror

Hi everyone.

Got a Mk3 2014 FR with Tech pack so has heated folding mirrors and all that.

A while back the driverside mirror stopped unfolding automatically, and has to be pulled out hard by hand and no longer locks into place unfolded. It's stiff enough not to rotate while driving (vibrates slightly) but just needs a wee tap and it'll lock back into the closed position. Passenger side still unfolds automatically after a short delay, as if the system is waiting for the driverside to unfold too.

I've seen people discussing strange faults with their mirrors stopping folding in/out before, and being reset by holding the windows down and up etc. I had these issues every now and then but eventually the mirrors would sort themselves out. I've always folded the mirrors in everytime when parking so it's quite possible the motor in the driverside was wearing out and tripping something, and now it's finally gone.

Has anyone had the same issue? Mentioned at service and Seat dealership suggest motor replacement but would rather have a look myself, especially if anyone has had experience taking apart, ordering motors and other parts and putting back together. Thanks.

Had both mirror assemblies replaced on our pre-FL FR under warranty when the motors failed. There are some threads on here where people have tried to replace motors etc, but motors are not sold as a separate item. It’s probably worthwhile buying the plastic covers that sit in the door card near the door lever too, as the dealer managed to break them on both sides during replacement.

You might need to get a pack of the pins that hold the door card

I've had it done on my pre fl, a fairly easy job.

Dealer quoted me around 300 for a replacement, got a 2nd hand mirror for 70 and took about an hour to replace.

Plenty of threads on door card removal and then it's just a couple of bolts and 1 plug that needs connecting.

Great thanks, I will likely get this done. Thanks for the tips about the plastic covers and door card pins too.
