broken preouts on 3 month old alpine head unit :(

ok so i decided to tidy up my boot install today

i disconnected eveyting and put the sub into a new enclosure. put everything back together and since then i had really bad interferance....could hear the interferance increasing as engine revs increased and when the engine was off the sub was going crazy!!!

did some research and double checked the rca's were no where near any power cables and ensured the earth was a good connection but still no improvements!!

since speaking to a friend whos a mechanic he was completely baffled!

since then i've put my old head unit in and everything works fine.

so should i be contacting alpine and asking for a repair? or just cut my losses and get a new one?

Tried using a ground loop isolator in line with your rca's? or even a amp noise suppressor ?

i thought of that but that's just a way round the problem rather than solving it...there was never any issues with interference before :S

how much does a ground loop isolator usually cost and hw easy are they to fit?

did you disconnect the earth with the rcas and power cable still attached? If so the rca's will have earthed out the sub on the stereo damaging the rcas earth track. If you get a peice of cable 14-16gauge and then wrap it round the outer shell of your rca's at the stereo end and attach the other end to an earth location and if you have no interference then thats what you have done.

What I suggested is a work a round. Most good quality Phonos will allow you to unscrew the shield from the phono then pop the cable inside the OUTER metal sheath and re screw back on cover. Then repeat on every other phono you have. Then ensure the cable is earthed to separate earth to the stereo and then you should be fine. Works fine for pioneer as it's quite a common issue but haven't tested on an alpine but no reason it won't. If it doesn't then repair will sort it. Should be covered as no way manufacturers can test it's what you did that would cause it but always ensure when installing phono it's the last cable connected and when removing its the 1st cable removed.

They usually cost just under £20 you literally put them IN LINE with your rca's, its should sort your problem, i think the noise your hearing usually develops if the gauge or quality of your cables are poor or incorrect...not too sure on that, but its what ive heard, because the guage has to be correct in the relation to its length and obviously power rating.

Autoleads part number... pc1-620 i think!, but im sure a quick search will help.

Pop into your local Halfords they sell the part.

I think you are somewhat confused, this needs to be done at the amp end not the stereo end, if you sell it on there will be nothing connected to the stereo

ah ok i thought you meant inside the headunit lol. howcome it's all working fine now that i've changed the head unit and kept everything else the same though? i don't get it?
