Broken Turbo

Does anyone out there know if it is safe to drive my Leon 110 TDi whilst the turbo is broken? Currently I'm not going above 2.5k revs but need to use the car until it can get fixed. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for prompt response. I took the car to a main dealer (Seat Datchet) and they said the Waste Gate & the Actuator were broke. £1.7k bill for the work. I'm in an argument with the garage I bought it from at the moment and have been advised by my legal representation that I should not get the work done yet. The dealership advised that is should be OK to drive but that was 3 weeks ago.
Seeking some advice from other sources really.

Sounds a bit strange. From what you say, if it is a 'simple case' of the actuator being broken (incedently the 110 does not have a wast gate turbo, it has a variable vane turbo, i.e vnt) these can be replaced as they are bolted on to the turbo. It might no be that simple as it could be internal. As far as running you car with this like this, it should be ok in the short term. If you car is not under warrenty, I would go to someone like CR Turbos who know a lot about them and can advise.

are you getting a high pitched turbo squeel...

i know how you feel man...mine turbo went and they charged me 1100 then it went again a month later....

i then needed a new engine as it was particles in the engine...this is what u dont want as it will **** the engine and you wont be able to fix it....my car cost me 3k in a month

Thank's again. It is a late model 55 plate with a June 2005 build (registration?) date so perhaps it has a different turbo or perhaps it's been replaced in the paste or maybe Seat got it wrong with their diagnosis. Appreciate the details regarding CR Turbos also.

no there is no squeel just a flat engine when the revs go above 2.5K. I put that down to it being a diesel at first but soon realised something was not right.

I think you need to get the fault codes read. Post in the VAG-com section to see if there's anyone local to you who is willing to come and plug their laptop into your diagnostic port.

If "(Seat Datchet)" - - - "said the Waste Gate & the Actuator were broke. £1.7k bill for the work" Then I'd run, not walk, to find a good independent VAG specialist. As notes above, the TDI 110 engine does not have a wastegate, so this is bullshit from a Seat dealer who just wants your money.

Flat above 2.5 K could easily be limp mode, which can be brought on by many failures. If the dealer said it was safe to drive they must be confident that the ECU is protecting the engine from whatever the fault is.
