Broken Valve Spring

Hi All,

Could someone more in the know tell me if it is normal for a valve spring to go after only 50,000 miles? The car hasn't been ragged, just motorway driving mostly.

Definately not normal, given you've not been reving the the nuts off it every mile.
What engine is it? Valve springs breaking are not a common fault on VAG cars.

Hi,

It's a 1.6 8V engine, always been serviced when due etc. Typically it is out of warranty (just!) and the dealer is telling me it's going to cost £1k to fix.

They are going to talk to Seat about a good will gesture but I don't hold out much hope.
