some of you will no i have recently tried to colour code my bump strips... first attempt went wrong as the colour match was shocking... second attempt went well i thought... only managed to get the drivers side done mind... picked up me pass side bits today primed and painted ready to fit to the car...

anyway thought i wud giv the car a quick clean before fitting... well what goes and happens.. wash me drivers side with a presure washer on medium setting and the paint litterally just peeled off.

i was extremly p*ssed. so decided for sum reason to change colour scheme... instead of painting them colour coded red painted them gloss black and laquered them up about 10 times... very shiney... well i havent had chance to fit yet and still nt sure wether a good idea but since i tinted me rear lights, all windows tinted, and painted my back S badge on the boot i think it might go.... anyway any opinions of what it may look like without pics would be good and then when i get it done this week il post up pics and you can get second opoions

cheers

Oh, bad luck. You need to use a very fine sandpaper (the bodyshop that did mine actually use something that resembles a nylon scouring pad) to lightly rub down (take the shine off the surface) of a plastic or painted surface to give the primer something to grip to. Then prime them up; then paint; then light rub down; then paint second coat; then lacquer; then allow a few days before washing or polishing. Bodyshops also have the benefit of an oven to bake the paint on.

I got my strips painted because the factory had colour coded the inserts on the corners of the front and back bumpers and I thought it then looked odd with black side strips at the same level between.

In your case it sounds like you already have a few black bits around the car and so your glossy black side strips should look fine. It's what you like the look of that matters after all.

Try sticking them on temporarilly with some strips of masking tape or BlueTak and take a look. If you don't like them glossy black, you can rub them down and paint 'em red again before the final fix.

Unlucky with the paint pealling off, I've had similiar bad luck so I was leave stuff I've painted a week for the paint to harden before putting it on my car now.

I was toying with the idea of doing my bump strips black aswell (red car also), and getting some cupra wing mirror covers! You'll ave to post up them pics as I bet it looks the muts nuts.

I colour coded mine, left them for a week in the conservatory... then thought it a good idea to use both duct tape and insulation tape to hold it flat to the door whilst the glue on the back set! Bad idea!

Ended up having to redo one side again... came out perfectly second time though, so not a total disaster :)
