I've got to do my brakes (front and rear) fairly soon, is there a specific caliper re-wind tool for the rear calipers on the Ibiza, if not is there a recommended one to use?

The car's a PD 130 sport

Thanks :)

Just the standard "right hand thread" version that places like Halfords, Machine Mart and maybe Toolstation - maybe even Screwfix. - they usually list VW or VAG and others in the models it covers.

Edit:- £15.59 at Machine Mart, £19.99 Screwfix, £3?.?? Halfords - nothing in Toolstation!

if you've got an angle grinder or hacksaw and the right size piece of square stock it's easy to make one that will fit the piston with a spanner to turn it. Not as easy to use but it works!

Rght, lets see, the piston is smooth with two small blind round holes in it to locate a rewind tool adaptor - go on, tell me how your DIY made tool fits that without a lot more work being put into making it?

Having to also press down hard, for me made me steer clear of any tool that does not include its own pressing action.

It sound like you are talking about the front calipers?

i'm talking about the lucas rear callipers.
they have a solid round piston with a cross shape sticking out of them

if you cut notches where the protruding cross bits can sit then the leftover prongs will sit in the spaces

I did have to press down (put tool in vice and pressed caliper into it) so yeh, it's really only great if you need to get it done and don't have the tool.

Sounds to me that you are talking about something else, I bought my S-P tool suitable for loads including VAG back in 2002, then used it on a 2001MY VW Passat 4Motion rear discs and a 2003MY VW Polo 1.4 SE rear disks, I'd be shocked/amazed in the OP's car has different Lucas rear callipers to the ones I've worked on that had two small blind holes in the end of the pistons!

it's weird because when i do a google image search it comes up with what you describe but mine are certainly different. I'm pretty sure that tool would still fit in the spaces between the cross with the ones i have tho.

You can do it with the "cube" tool that has different lugs on each face but it needs a tweak with a grinder to make it fit right. This is the same as a DIY tool but you need a G clamp in both cases to push the cube/tool into the piston as you rotate the tool so it is a 3 hand job.

I finally broke down and got a full kit for rear calipers and it is relatively a breeze to do it.. certainly for £20 it is the only way.

I dismissed that cube tool as soon as I saw it, when you understand what needs to be done, and see how the normal rewind tools are designed, you have to think "why?" when you see the design of that basic and cheap cube tool - I find it strange that Draper even considered using their name on some of them.

If I'm being kind, the only time that that cube tool is useful is when you have situations where the piston needs to be in a certain position (rotational) to fit the pads - very very few cars require that.
