Is it possible to modify the 8v at reasonable cost to get better acceleration etc?

For example on minis you could stage 1 it, sports filter, inlet, and exhaust?
 
We've got both a 16v and my 8v and i can't tell that much difference especially not with everyday driving. Maybe its just me but i would want something that is going to be significantly faster than the 8v. I just don't think the 16v is fast enough (when upgrading from an 8v). Thats my opinion anyway :whistle:

cheap fast road cam(only need one) and a remap should see 130+ bhp and some torque increase,or swap the engine for the later 130 bhp new beetle 8v engine,and whack on somre throttle bodies :D
 
why only have ya cake, when you can have ya cake and eat it, 16v's, treat um well and they treat you.

a camshaft from a mk2 golf gti 8v will give approx a 10 bhp gain, dependant on other mods. not forgetting of course that the 8v makes more than the 115bhp quoted as standard. my old one for example had 140k miles, a blowing exhaust and a knackered MAF and that made 126.1bhp with 150lb/ft of torque. so an AMD +10bhp re-map (400 quid) plus a mk2 golf camshaft could in theory give upwards of 145bhp. (probably wouldn't quite in reality)

mpg blows, ive just done 200 on £38 abit of maths later 23MPG .

how ever over 4k up to about 70 it will beat most. i find 5th is a little short if you do alot of motorway jorneys.

stick a box on from the 1.8 16v.its longer than a slow death from 3rd gear,and the final drive is the only one EVER of its kind in VAG:confused:

Im keeping the 8v, i was tempted i saw a nice 16v blue one on ebay go for 920, only 70k.

had a shocking interior though!
 
Ive had mine since April and its just amazing, yeah i need a breeze block to drop the clutch when im being lazy, and a scooter feels more responsive at lower revs, but when your cruising at 60 and you drop it to third, the 4000 rpm magic takes over and theres not much hope for the little standard 8v hatch backs such as 106 gti and corsa sri's. My cordy once claimed 140 on the clock chasing down a skoda vrs (private roads of course) as standard.

MPG isnt too bad considering, we wont talk about first thing in the morning just driving down town to work. but if you do alot of motorway driving its not bad at all. Stick to 70 and youll see around 38 - 40mpg, at 90 ive had a constant 35 on a good day.

If your thinking of modding futher though look towards an 1.8t as theres not much off the shelff for the ABF and since your looking at doing an engine swap, why have good when you can have great?
 
I take it they have that throaty burble roar exhaust note, my 8v cupra had that, and i miss it!

NOPE 16v sounds a lot more sensible, 8v is where the good noise is at, even with a standard exhaust.

I've gone 2lite 8 to 16 back to 8v.

8v is the best, but a 16v on song on a long dead piece of road when all is working as it should.......:drool:

Shame it doesnt happen much :(
 
As far as noise goes can't beat the valver with a BMC CDA induction kit and a metal induction pipe.
