Hi everyone my car has developed what could be a bit of a serious issue.

I started the car today and noticed it didn't sound right at all. in fact it sounded like a tractor. shortly after i got an Oil pressure warning and turned the car off. Checking under the bonnet i could see oil and been leaking and had been thrown a round. see picture...

Being at work i was a bit stuck really so i called the AA. The patrol man immediately thought it wouldnt be good. he took the cam pulley cover off and discovered the sprockets were loose and not lined up. Apparently i was very lucky they did not come off and avoided the inevitable engine wrecking. The oil appears to have leaked from the camshaft seals.

The car has only done approx 30000 miles and had its first major service in January. It is out of its seat warranty since december and just left its "approved" warranty on the second of april.

The AA patrol man was of the opinion it shouldnt have happened to a car this young. And advised me to take it to the main dealer in the hope of getting some contribution to fixing it.

Its now sat in a dealer waiting over night to be looked at tomorrow. I've been informed by a member of a Leon group on Facebook that it could be the "Cam variator" and that in his time with VW he had replaced a few on 1.2 and 1.4 tsi engines. In fact a few engines had to be replaced because of a similar issue and there was a "TPI" for the issue.

Im currently in limbo until the garage get back to me now but if anyone has some advice it would be much appreciated. Thanks all!

Can't help on the actual issue but in terms of getting some goodwill to pay for it just call seat customer services and put a claim in for some goodwill.

I recently had the egr valve and gaskets fail on mine so it kept using coolant.
My extended 4th year warranty ran out in December and I'm on 100k but had full seat service history.
Seat and the dealer paid for the work which was just over £700.

Youre on lower mileage and I wouldn't expect a fault like that to develop so soon so I'd guess you've got a very good chance of getting this paid for especially if there is a TPI and seat know about it

isn't this a common fault on the 1.2 tsi? a lot of Audi cars suffered this I believe. Its a complete top end rebuild assuming no piston damage

Hi all apologies for late replies. The last i heard from the Garage was Thursday. However the inside man told me the car moved out of the garage into the compound under its own power on friday. I am heading into town today for shopping so i intend to pop in and get an update. I was told that new parts were on order and it would be late next week when the car was ready.

Apparently SEAT are willing to contribute 70% (or 75 i cant recall) towards the repairs but its still going to cost me over £300 to get this fixed. I am pretty upset with this to be honest the car is still mechanically brand new!

Owen83 do you have any more information on this common fault? Im currently flying blind and its a bit frustrating.
