Hi everyone.

Just would like to know an idea of cost before I call the dealer for a quote.

How much am I looking at for a cambelt change?
Car is at 71000k and will need doing sooner rather than later.

Isn't the Cambelt at 60,000 Miles (96KKm (or 96Mm :p)) It's just an inspection at 70000K (about 40K miles)

I think Cambelt is about £250. While it's being done you might as well get a new (brass impeller) water pump fitted at the same time.

Most places will do the pump at cost on top of the cambelt change (about £20).

I thought 40K was the big one (just had mine yesterday) so I presume 50K is just an inspection/ oil service?

I believe that's correct. My 40k is due in the next few months and that's definitely a big one so 50k should be an intermediate service.

40k is plugs, wipers, all the filters, etc... I paid about £200 for that at an independant specialist.

50k is just a 10k.

I'm going to get the belt / tensioners / pump done between the 50 and 60k

Also don't forget the 2 yearly brake fluid change. :)

Not sure what my car had a 40k. I bought it on 42k from a delaer with full SEAT history, but they serviced it before I picked it up. So god knows what they did. This is JCT 600 we are talking about.

Might just get a big service (probably do wipers myself :p) at 50k and get the belt done/etc.

There is an indpendant VAG specialist in Leeds call IVC (I think)... might give them a try. Seem knowlegable on the phone.

The plugs should have been done in the 40k service and that should be indicated in the service book.

If in doubt, get it serviced again by an independent. Might cost money but much cheaper than potential engine problems from a badly serviced car. Plus peace of mind that it's not going to die when you next floor it :)

I had my 40k done recently at an Arnold Clark. They informed me that the timing belt interval had been revised down to the sooner of 4 years and 40k miles. They quoted me £290 for it.

I got it done at a local garage for £150.

Arnold Clark told me that mine was due at 60,000 miles.

Latest indication from SEAT (within the last week) was that they recommend inspection from 60,000 and replace at 100,000 - however, they said it is "good practice" to replace after 4 years, irrespective of mileage, and avised me to have the belt "analysed" by a dealer.

I am getting the belt and water pump done next week - but by a different dealer who quoted a lower price for this and some brake work.

my LC is 03 plate, only had it three months, so i have 9 months warranty left on this. if i get the car serviced elsewhere, ie not the STEALER, do i risk loosing the remaining warranty or does it not make any differnce. they quoted me £200 for 40k service, i am havin cam belt done at 50-60 i think. any suggestions. i know my local garage can be much much cheaper as he is a very good friend of our neighbour.

some may say lala land....
i bought mine in aug06 with 10mnths warranty left and i asked the dealer about that and he said as long as it was stamped by a VAT approved garage it was till valid - make sure VAT number is part of stamp
i keep going back as feel they can't blame a fault on other under the "not done here mate so not my problem" line of b0ll0cks they talk - feel safer that way
Just after a good independent near shrewsbury to use
