Does anyone have the part number? Either Main dealer number of GSF mart number?

I've searched and all the results just show people asking for the number, and just getting replies basically saying the timing will be out and that the sensor never breaks....

less than £20, I think I'll order one, beats £105 stealers are asking for

Just been told GSF do one for £40.45 and it's a genuine OEM part

Mat i thought you have had a cambelt fitted? if so and its only just started coming up with this fault then your timing will be out it only has to be a tooth out to give this fault. just thought id let you know

I know.... The mechanic is adament he is right.... So giving him a chance...

We had a deal... Try a new sensor, if it works, fine. If it doesn't, he refunds me the cost of the sensor, and rechecks the cambelt

Yeah, a lot say timing.... However, it took 4 attempts to start last night, and then 3 attempts when leaving the cinema... Which to me could indicate a dodgey connection...

IMO that's the ECU preventing it from starting because it's being told the timing is out.

Bingo! but its not preventing it from starting its just cant start because it doesnt know why the crank isnt in time with the cam so doesnt know when to put air n fuel in the right time. Also if its struggling to start id say its more than a tooth out!

feels like it's running fine... only thing i noticed yesterday is when I do about 30/40mph and 3rd/4th gear and not touching any peddles, I can hear a faint pop pop pop pop.... sounds like knocking..... To me, that's the timing

why dont you have a deal with him that if you go to another garage, they redo the timing and it works, he pays for it. if not then buy the sensor. at least you'll prove him wrong if your right...

If the timing is out it will start without any problems unless its waaayyyyyy out

If the sensor is stuffed then it will take ages to start as the crank and cam triggers need to both be there to start.

Sounds like the sensor is stuffed mat, do you have a mate with an Ibiza to try one? Its like 2 x 10mm nuts to get off.

Mat, If yours is an AYP I can whip the one out of mine and bring in Sunday... Unless your getting it sorted tomorrow?!

Think so rob....

The knocking noise sounds like it's coming from the drivers wheel....

Hopefully just the sensor.... I'm dropping the car off at the garage on monday

mine brought this fault up when my cambelt had slipped, the car would start u just had to press the throttle 3 times before turning the key. mine had slipped 7 teeth and still ran fine, just had to do that to start it. i also had a new cambelt fitted and they put it on in the same place!!. brought my new sensor from euro car parts was about £35. not that it made any diffrence though. 7 teeth out didnt do any damage so if it has slipped i cant see that it would of damaged anything
