He'd pull away... and then I'd creep back up... then he'd pull away again. Its power comes in great big lumps. I was blown away at how fast it pulls away from stood still though. It really flings your head back into the seat.
Derv's really don't suite the way I drive and what I love about cars.
It's nice to have a person on the petrol side though ey? For once haha! :funk:

 tbh, if i was working closer to home id have a 1.8T FR or cupra on the drive instead of the derv, and i think what you said there about not suiting your driving style is it in a nut shell. Diesel aint for everybody but there is nothing wrong with it, i too once madly against diesel and here i am loving it

I think give you mate a bit of time with it and he'll learn and you'll struggle to keep up with it. Derv's need to be kept in the torque band once its out of power you got nothing and on a stock engine it's usually around the 3500rpm mark so if you red line it you are seriously knackering your performance. Once mapped it pulls upto to the 4k mark.

Yeah, he's had it for a month so far, so I'll give it time haha!

Its all personal preference! I was quite shocked he bought the PD130, but it has sure changed his mind about diesels.

There is nothing wrong with diesels and there is some nice diesel touring cars atm! Diesels have clearly caught up with petrols now. I just need to grow up a bit before I could own one

I've just had a quick think and more and more people are choosing diesels over petrols these days, so maybe I'm missing out?

people choose diesel as its cheaper to run, tax and most of the time insure as well. However servicing is more expensive and MUST be done, they also dont attract the showroom tax like the petrols.

Personally i do not understand people that barely travel anywhere and buy the diesel. The only reason i can think of is that people prefer the power delivery, but in alot of ways if your only running it for 5 mins before shutting it off, you not letting the engine get to its peak temp and as a result doing it more harm than good.

You need to drive the derv to understand how they differ from petrols as they are widely different in character.

Back on topic, the formula sport is a cracking little car especially the forumla sport with the quilted seats and nicer alloys. Buy it mate seriously

I did 8000 miles over a year and a half in my derv,
People say that theres no point buying a diesel if you don't do much mileage but when I had 700 miles to a tank of fuel it put alot of unhappy faces on my friends :)

Software update?! SPILL! :p

A software update was released in dec 09 for this engine to deal with the lag in the acceleration and how the car pulls at high speed and up hills. My car is still under warranty and i just complained that i thought the car was quite unresponsive at times and they did this update. Have to say, it is miles better than before!

Formula sport looks a good little car IMO. 100bhp from a 1.4, insurance group 5 (thats only 1 up from a corsa sxi), Tax band G(£155 a year), combined mpg of 42...10.8 to 60, certainly a nice first car.
Unless you really do miles stay away from diesels IMO. Big heavy dirty things with no revs :p lol

Never understood this, Why does the number of miles you do matter what fuel you use?

To me its a compromise, I wouldn't drive a diesel unless I had to. It's very different driving one to a petrol, and not something I would do unless I had to. Personal preference I guess.
