Hi All. I have an Ibiza DAB 1.4 and getting fed up with the crashy ride. Was thinking of changing from stock tyres 205/45/16 to 205/55/16. I have seen all the tyre diameter calculators but nowhere says if it can be done it can only tell you effect on speedo.

Has anyone on the forum gone from 205/45/16 to 205/55/16? What were the effects?

Many thanks.

205/55/16 tyres do fit. but they scrape the arches when you go over bumps etc.

Have been considering this as well for tyre life and choice mainly. When you say they scrape are you meaning the arches or the arch liners?

My other option was to go up to 17s for a bit more tyre choice but will still have the mileage issue...

they scrape the arch liners. the arches, if you have a set with the correct et value should not be a problem. I had a set of winter tyres 205/55/16 on my Ibiza mk4 2.0 sport. but got rid of them..

the effect on my Speedo was that i was going about 2-3 km/h faster than normal ( tested with gps)

Don't do it!! Iv got winter ones on that are 55s and they annoy the he'll out of me! scrub on arch over alot of bumps. And when on full lock. Get alot of weird looks lol

Cheers for the heads up! Have recently fitted a set of Weibach shocks and springs which are a wee bit lower than the Sport suspension too so all in all it sounds like a no go. Is there much choice for tyres in the 205 50 16 size? Or any more than the 45s?

I've been running Hankooks. They grip and drive nicely but seem to wear quite quickly. Anyone recommend any other tyres to try? (I'll have a search for previous threads too but jumped on this one when I saw the OP's original question!)
