Started a fair few posts as of late.

Anyhow, had a decat fitted to my 180 bhp cupra which is remapped yesterday.

Full 3" system turbo back, de cat then cobra resonated mid section and cobra 6x4 oval backbox.

All seemed well at first, it smoked a little because it was new, but then today things have got strange.

First of all the engine management light hasnt came on, ive done about 100 miles so far.

The car smells really strong of fuel from the exhaust fumes?

After a run, if its sat ticking over, itl puff blue smoke out for about 5 - 10 seconds lightly, then stop? Smells oily?

Power feels down compared to what it was before, also if im at the revs where its about to spool the turbo up and i let off the throttle, the exhaust sort of barks and makes a loud sound for a couple of seconds as if i blipped the throttle when i didnt?

Booked in at r tech 5th april for checkover just wondered if anyone could answer any of these in the meantime?

You now have less back pressure in the exhaust, this will show up any small issues the car has with it's oil seals. You aren't the first person to have this problem after a decat, I have deffo read threads like this before.

I bet that if you get the original zorst put back on it will be fine.

Nope just screw the sensors into the 2 holes on the downpipe/decat.

Just smells really rich petrol smell, with that odd puff of blue smoke and the oil smell, and just feels down on power, and that barking it does is driving me insane, if im cruising along and accelerate than let of it goes from a humble brrr to 10 times as loud for a split second.

It had the original standard exhaust on it we found out when we removed it, rotten as hell, also had the original wishbones on it too, they had to be cut off aswell !

I did think turbo oil seals, is this a big issue or just something that won't get any worse, or will gradually get worse till the turbo fails?

If the light hasnt came on i shouldnt need one of those surely?

Its hard to explain, before the exhaust was fitted it just felt a lot tighter, at lower revs it was like a normal car but you knew and could feel the power was there, plant your right foot and it just took off and boosted from around 2750 up to 5000 in each and every gear hard, it just feels sloppy now, maybe because its been mapped its upset the map?

Thanks

Hello mate. The Blue smoke is oil being burnt from the turbo. This happens when the there is no pressure going through the turbo, oil seeps in through the seals and is burnt hence the blue smoke. To be honest you need to get this fixed with either a recon unit or a new one or even send yours away for repair if you can do without your car for a week. Im in the same boat as you mate so i feel your frustration.

Where did you have the remap done? It might be a bad map hence the reason why the car feels a bit weird.

I dont know mate, the whole car has a bit of a grey area history wise.

Its done 700 miles in the last year, the guy i got it off didnt use it much hence selling it.

In 2009 it had a service at 111,000 miles, its on 120,000 now.

Its got a mileage marker of 89,000 in 2007 on the HPi report i got.

Was remapped by the guy- before the guy i got it off, the guy i got it off didnt really know much about it and just advertised it as remapped cupra 180 - 225bhp, but couldnt find the printout, i then found forge d/v on it, coilovers, etc

No idea where it was mapped, was just told stage one, ive got it booked in 5th april at revo for dyno/diagnostics/healthcheck, hoping nothings up because ill have to book it in again to get it sorted as theyre really busy, i use it daily to get work and back so cant be without it unfortunately.

I thought fitting that exhaust it would be okay, but it appears to have shown issues with my turbo, its running rich and it seems to have upset the map ! doh !
