Hi all.

So ive had my car literally 2 weeks now and just as i thought id ironed out the niggles it chucks another one at me.

It smokes. Its dark now so i cant tell if its light grey or white.

All i know is it smells acrid and nasty. Doesnt smell sweet at all.

I had just driven home around a 40 mile trip and there was a strong vibration around 1200 rpm on the way up and down, but it cleared. I had no loss of power and no smoke visible in the headlights of other cars or street lamps whilst driving.

I noticed it when i came back half an hour later, started the car and let it tick over to see if the vibration was there and noticed a small whiff of smoke from the exhaust. The smoke seemed to get worse the longer it was running.

When i blipped the throttle it chucked more smoke out, cleared for a few seconds then came back :(

Does anyone have any ideas? Im hoping its just something like the egr valve but i realise that is probably optimistic.

If it turns out to be serious, i got the car from a dealer so have the right to reject the car within the first 30 days iirc.

Yeah i did. Solved that one though. Ive got no loss of power at all this time and no black smoke on boost.

Ive also found that the egr is buzzing. With the engine running at idle the egr is buzzing. If i put my hand on the ufo i can feel it.

I seem to have got to the bottom of the smoke. I noticed a damp spot on one of the diesel pipes coming from the fuel filter which i changed over the weekend. I removed and re seated the pipe and the smoke hasnt come back.

There seems to be soot deposits around the egr so i think the pipe might have gone. I was going to remove the egr anyway so its just sped that up. The odd thing about it is that the car drives fine. No loss of power or black smoke under load which is why im scratching my head. The turbo whistle sounds normal to me. Listening to the engine particularly at low revs when pulling away it does sounds like it did before when the boost hose popped off. Its a really deep "diesely" sound sorry to sound so vague. You can really hear it resonating through the plastics particularly the air box.
