Just been out to give it a try to see if it was water and it's now dried out.

Still not starting but the clicking seemed to have calmed down at the first attempt but returned on the second...
All the noise is coming from the engine bay and not the actual relays.

the clicking really sounds like your starter motor as said earlier...it is also supposed to die off after holding the key turned.....

Battery connections all spot on. Just checked, the dash lights come on but when the clunking is going on in the engine bay the battery light flashes. None of them dim.

With that in mind baz it does point to the starter motor mate. It might be siezed which would stop it jump starting, i can imagine its about £100 for a new one so not to bad really, could be alot worse

you have to realize that a car battery loses power quickly if the car won;t start and you keep trying over and over again. Best bet if you are gonna continue trying, to put it on one of those socket loaders, or else you'll be stuck with a dead battery soon.

but myki if it is the starter motor he might as well try and give it a good wack first with a heavy blunt object and see if it starts then...that will rule it out for sure

tried!
Process of elimination.
Have fuel? Check injectors and pump
Have spark? Take plugs out and try.
Ecu?
Fuses?
Relays?
Temp sensor?
Vagcom again?

i know you say you have tried jumping it. But if the battery is cream crackered then jumping it wont work. Get another battery on it just to try

Right lads everybody that said something to do with starter motor was correct. The connector was all corroded. Quick rub down with sand paper and it turned over perfectly. Covered it in electrical compound so no more rust.;)

Thanks for all the help and suggestions guys.

i think about 3 people told him that about twenty odd times.

good to hear its working again though. I know what a bother it can be if your precious don't start hahaa

Yeah most of you suggested the starter motor, top boys! I checked everything people suggested and found the fault.

I now know what a dodgey starter motor sounds like now;)
