hi all
I just received my 04 plate pd130 sport and i am extremely pleased with it apart from the car pulling slightly to the left. does anyone know what the problem could be.

The garage told me along with the service they carried out the tracking had been done. there doesnt seem to be any noises irregular and when accelerating hard with hands tight on the steering wheel it doesnt pull to the left only really happens with loose hands on the steering weel at normal speeds.

does anyone have a solution or any advice on what it could be?

cheers

If it does it at constant speed on a level road then its steering and suspension geometry, if it does it when accelerating and gets worse under heavy acceleration, then its torque steering. If the latter, it can be due to the differential design and/or a draggy intermediate bearing if one drive shaft is longer than the other. If it is torque steering then of course the more power you have, the greater the effect!

Does it pull ever so slightly to the left, or a lot and quite sharply? If it only pulls very slightly then it should be nothing to worry about as most cars pull to the left slightly. This is due to the fact that if you fall asleep at the wheel or faint, etc. it won't swerve into oncoming traffic. However, I will say that I've noticed it pulls more than other cars I've driven!

EDIT: This could all be complete bollocks but it's what was told to me when I first started driving years ago. Kinda makes sense though don't you think?

Makes sense, pretty sure I have read something like that on here before, seems pretty common too.

ye it pulls slightly to the left no biggie tbh, i can live with it just i found it a bit odd plus i thought something might be wrong coming from a Clio dci.
When i accelerate with hands hard gripping the steering wheel it is as straight as a needle!

doesn't sound too serious from replies so over next two weeks ill see if it gets worse

BTW thanks for the replies everyone most helpful cheers :)

I can't say that I'm convinced by the 'pulls to the left intentionally' argument. The majority of these cars are sold into countries where they drive on the right, so a left drift would be potentially lethal! They would have to have two different flavours of suspension to get the 'correct' drift and I can't see them doing that somehow. Of course if somebody has got a parts manual which shows different suspension numbers for left and right hand drive vehicles, then I would be convinced :)

Other factors apart from suspension geometry and torque steerng could be a slightly draggy brake pad, different tyre patterns or pressures or uneven loading. Can't think of any more factors for now.

+1

Mine pulled to the right in France though, I think they are just sensitve to the road

Roads are crowned in the middle. Some people say it's for the reason above, but others say it's for drainage. However, no matter what it's for, if you drive on the right, you'll go slightly right, if you drive on the left, you'll go slightly left.

Mine pulls really violently despite ju7st been tracked. My mate seems to think the chassis could be bent but i find this hard to believe

Mines pulls to the left slightly on most roads, i put this down to the curve on the roads etc

I had alignment nad tracking done a few weeks ago because my steering wheel wasnt straight since buying the car and it still pulls a little.

By a little i mean a little, driving it a straight line is not an issue.

Hmm, mines enough to ache my arm on the motorway.....sure your brakes are slightly stuck on one side? do you have any squeeks or noises?

If i let go of the steering wheel on a straight road it will be in the curb in about 10 metres if driving at 40! Need to get it checked out but scared of them righting my car off if it is the chassis :(
