Not sure how useful they would be as he has a TFSI petrol engine

If it is tandem pump related, did you ever swap back to your other one?

Hot start issue:Ensure car is hot! Disconnect the injector loom to stop the car starting. ignition on, start logging and recording with VCDS (just RPM to get a high sample rate). Keep turning car over until cranking speed stabilises and reaches/holds a peak.

Once done review log and see how long/how many turns its taking to reach a decent speed. Reconnect injector loom and clear the fault code for it

For cold start issue, log the injector balance whilst its playing up, and look through VCDS for a misfire counter, really cant remember if there is one for your engine/ecu

No didn't swap back as showed a vw tech a pic of my fuel filter when it came out and he said had oil in so suspect tandem probably had failed. He advised me to put another in now and see if it was better if so, then it may confirm that.

Just doing cranking test now will upload log in a sec

Nothing at all wrong with them, 100% rule that out.

How long is it cranking over when warm before starting? It has to be fuel related though, cant see what else it can be. I'm not a mecanic or an expert on the mechanical side of things so i really dont know how you could test the tandem pump etc. to rule it out

The part about this problem starting after fitting this pump does make me wonder if it is related.....

Nothing at all wrong with readings you mean as opposed to fuel filter pics?

I know what you mean about tandem pump, however I think the same that since fitting the 2nd pump its always started whereas before it wouldn't.

Tried to video cold start this morning unfortunately I had the charger plugged in so it cut out the camera. You can see car fires up instantly, but when camera cut it was running very lumpy.
https://vimeo.com/110124476

Hot start after 20 min drive. You'll probably laugh at how short the cranking is (its key a couple of turns in this example) but either way it should be instant. It can vary, sometimes it crank for a good few seconds before it fires uphttps://vimeo.com/110124676

Don't think I mentioned it previously except on a different thread, but my egr was leaking slightly where it met the manifold.

I replaced the o ring and tried to re-seat the egr but it wasn't much better, so before buying a metal manifold I tried fitting 2 pieces of paper gasket. (Cut to shape not covering internal hole). This seemed to do the job in sealing the gap and improved responsiveness when feathering the throttle.

I am not sure if this would have any adverse affects on the egr/maf readings, but on inspection today I have noticed quite a bit of oil is seeping through the gasket.

I am going to remove it and see if the readings change, I'll try it with no gasket and one gasket

I have had the egr off a few times to clean it since I had the car, but when reseating it last time it was quite clean but had a lot of liquid oil in it. Also it looked as though there we're tiny metal fragments in it which concerned me a lot, especially as my turbo is only a few months old.

Here are the pics - could the egr diaphragm be split? Or maybe the turbo oil seal leaking?

Checked the readings with one gasket and none didn't really make any difference to be honest so not bothered upload graphs. Whilst doing to work found lots of oil in the pipe and even after cleaning and refitting oil returned in one journey.
Worried my turbo eels have gone already after less than 4k miles. See my other thread

Just looked at the vids.... Got to be honest, it sounds fine to me. It's starting up fine when warm in the second vid, and either you cut the camera off to early or it's not picking up the rough running audibly

The camera cut off before the rough running then it was too late. When the car starts hot it is still only a few seconds of cranking at most, somedays it's worse than others. That video it's not too bad to be honest, but either way should really be the same as when cold

Hi just wondering did you ever get this problem sorted?? After mine had been left for a day or 2 it could take a few attempts to start. Then yesterday it didnt start at all!! Tried jump starting with another car and made no difference what so ever. Mechanic said it definitely isn't a battery problem, sounds like a fuel problem. Spent all day looking and trying things but have had no luck at all. Have noticed there's quite a bit of white smoke when it's starts and takes a few seconds to settle

A turbo doesn't have any seals, so no seals can go. A turbo has a one silicone O-ring and that's all

They are probably more often referred to as seals, my understanding is that is is most likely metal like a piston ring and oil gets passed them and into the pipes and worst case the engine. Car is being looked at today to try and diagnose the turbo issue. (Not starting issue unfortunately)

Starting issue now resolved, instead of doing what everyone else does and spending money on parts that don't solve the problem I have had the hot start map changed and it now fires up as it should.
