Has anyone noticed that when using Google map wirelessly from an iPhone the position shown on the map is a few minutes behind where the car is? The first time this happened I knew where I was going but had the destination set to keep an eye on the traffic so noticed although it was tracking the route it was a couple miles behind where I was.

Yep, not just Google maps either. It’s another intermittent fault - I don’t know if it’s the fault of iOS / iPhone or of the CarPlay receiver.

Can't see why that would be Car related? Has anyone tried Android Auto and had the same experience?

Android Auto and Carplay are both just projecting the screen and not using any of the car sensors.

I'm guessing that the car might be providing GPS data to the phone when linked with Carplay/Android Auto.

Those with the problem should unlink their phone and see if the phone GPS is showing proper location.

I don't think so...I was under the impression they both use the phone's sensors. Remember they can both be used independently from the car.

I did have an iPhone which I bought for my Golf Mk8 as I was lead to believe it wil be better...turns out it was not as it kept disconnecting or the sound not working ( had to put the radio on first and then switch back to Carplay to get sound).

As soon as I switched back to wired Android Auto not a single problem with GPS or Sound or anything else.

Yeah everything is done by the phone, it’s just that the CarPlay software in the vehicle might be laggy in displaying the transmitted data for some reason. More than likely it’s the software within the iPhone itself though.

I think the wireless Carplay is generally a bit more buggy and sluggish in general. I've tried it in another car and that was the same. May well be worth just plugging in with a cable and see if it improves things.

No issues with Android Auto wirelessly, spot on with accuracy on Google Maps

I did a 200+ mile trip to Chester using wireless Apple CarPlay on Sunday and back home on Monday and Google maps worked fine the only thing I did differently this time was not putting my phone in the wireless charging cradle. When I use the wireless charger CarPlay starts to play up and my phone gets very hot and even shutdowns with a temperature warning so I’m not sure if there is an issue with the wireless charger?

I found the wireless charger to be extremely unreliable (with or without a case on my iPhone 12). It would regularly stop charging then later start again (with accommodating message on the screen).

The heat from a wireless charger will increase as efficiency decreases, which is dependent on the relative position of the transmitter/receiver (x,y axis) coils as well as their separation (z axis).

I had the same on my drive back from the dealers when I picked up the car. It was only a 70ish mile journey back, but too over 2 hours in the traffic. Part way thought the phone shut down with overheating message.

Not had an issue since, but I've not been on a journey for more than 40 mins at a time, but presume the combination on wireless charging and wireless CarPlay over a lengthy period is too much for the phone.
