Is the connector plugged in to the changer ok?

In the boot you'll find the cable hooked under the bottom of the changer. If so, is it still connected ok at the back of the radio?

No, i've not heard anyone with that before - could be that you have a bigger radio issue, there is a company who can repair them, details can be found here somewhere.

Does it crackle constantly, or just as you change the volume?

The distortion sounds like a power issue somewhere in the radio - probably time for head unit repair..

not sure if that will fix your CD changer issue, but I'd start there, it might well do. Best bet would be to swap head unit with someone.. but if you're going to have it repaired anyway, you might find the issues are related.

may aswell take it out and mod it to a din slot then lol
not using the car untill end of feb due to insurance so i may aswell do it now
thanks for the help

the cd changer is still not working although iv sorted the crackling, it has splx front speakers so i replaced them with some sony ones and its sorted now. when i press the cd button on the stereo it just says "changer" on the display then goes back onto the radio
