Thats what Im thinking. I dont have the balls to start chopping up my dash though.

If someone knew what the wiring is like for both cars it might make it an easier decision.

he's got me thinking now too, is the leon the same as mk4golf/ mk5 polo etc etc climate control unit. the main problem i see is the twisty knob for the blower direction is motor operated on climate control cars whereas the mk3 is manual and uses different cables to operate the flaps.

i think the plugs in the back are the same tho?

just to make things more fun!! i know you can buy the kit to turn the twisty knob in to climate control for mk 4 golfs so you might be able to change the mk 3 dial in to climate control with the leon one. if your good with wiring.
