Bit of a long shot, is there any way of getting the central locking/alarm to give an audible tone when it is activated or deactivated??

Does it work using the normal car horn? What sort of tone are they different for the lock and unlock? Sorry to be a pain

Its not the "Horn" that you hear when pushing the horn button, it's more of a beep.
It will beep once for locking, and twice for unlocking. Some people find it annoying, but it's a good deterrant IMO so i have mine turned on.
Its a 2 min job to activate with Vagcom.

Or you can have a chirp for locking only / or unlocking only. I have mine set to beep once when locking but nothing for unlock. You can also disable / enable the indicator flash whan locking / unlocking

yeah, as well as turning selective locking on/off and anti hijack feature.

Not 100% true I'm afraid - depends on the year of the car.

Some earlier leons upto (and including some, such as mine) facelifts actually use the horn for the "chirp". It sounds gay - so obviously I don't have it enabled.

I've seen this on 3 leons I've tried to activate this feature on - all the owners immediately asked for it to be switched off. :(

Thats so true, tried it on mines, sounds, some tapping the horn (2000 year), On anther member car (2004), its a beep, similer to the toad alarms. which i prefer. Oh well

On my preface lift, i've found the alarm chirps are done by an extra horn under the scuttle panel near where the right wiper is located...

And only found that cos i set the alarm off with a pressure washer t'other week

I had this on an old Audi A4 Company car, everytime I pressed the button I would cringe! People would stare at you because they thought you were beeping them, so no way would I enable this! :)

Yeah, mine is a 2003 52 plate as well, but mine is quite an early one - although it got the facelift bodykit/parts I think I was unlucky and missed the alarm revision part :(
