certain laws...fog lights, number plates!

Personally, I'd say
it and go for the plates. Unless you serously take the mickey, you'll probably not have any problems.
Just remember to put the originals back on foe the MOT........
But I agree with the others on the foglight thing. Looks too chavvy and is bleedin' annoying.

Yeah ill still be selling it. was going to have the fogs done along with the other bits i had done.
pet hate of mine, do people think it looks cool driving round with their fogs on?
I know its pretty wrong and childish to some extent, but if someones coming towards me with their fogs on (as long as i'm not following anyone), i'll put my full beam on. Sometimes it works and they get the message and turn them off (but not very often).

This works really well if you're driving a SAAB 9-3 with Xenon headlights so I've been told
Someone else that does that as well then! my other favourite is just whacking the rear fogs and brakes on to blind them back when their behind me.
Came back to essex to see the folks last night and as soon as I crossed the bridge it was like foglight central. Every tw@t had them on when it was a damn clear night! As I was pulling into the village (NSL to 40) some idiot in an new ST Focus came blaring down the 40mph with his Xenons blaring and fogs on

My friends dad has a Landy Series III with an extra 4 spotlights on the front (For farm work) above the winch and flashes people with those if they have fogs on! They either get flashed back or sheepishly turn them off!
I saw a guy in Bracknell once get fed up with two chavs sat behind him in traffic with the foglights on (and bass thudding). He got out of his van and smashed both lights with a hammer. While I don't condone that behaviour, I really can't argue with it how effective it was!
So thats the answer, don't fine them, just give the police a hammer for that job.

Plates are a grey area.
If you don't attract attention to yourself then you wont/shouldn't be pulled.

Metal plate would not comply with UK C&U regs and in theory would be an MOT failure but as said above so-long as the type-face is not taking the p*** then you should probably be OK. I plan on going the metal plate route myself and there are some (spanish) versions on fleabay at the mo.
Keep your fogs off though. Only time they are of use is during fog or torrential rain, or pehaps on dark unlit twisties with no-other traffic. Any other time and it is inconsiderate to other drivers.

You do not need fogs in torrential rain as the light refracts through the large water droplets and blinds people even more!

Opinion or fact? There have been times during heavy rain and snow (less than 100 metres visibility) where I have been grateful for other drivers using their fog lights to indicate their presence more clearly. Personally I find HID's (especially retrofitted versions
) more of a discomfort for other drivers.Wrong - Fog lights are permitted to be used in conditions where visibility is seriously reduced (rule 211) and this is defined as being where visibility is less than 100 metres (rule 201). Neither the Highway Code nor Road Vehicle Lighting Regulations constrain the use of fog lights to fog only. Here we are associating the name of a device ("Fog light" sounds better than "Light to be used in conditions of seriously reduced visibility - less than 100 metres") with its use without due consideration of the rules.
It is inappropriate use of fog lights which can be a danger to other road users that is the problem, but permitted and safe use should not be discouraged.

regards the number plate thing...depends how clued up and wot sort of mood the copper is in. As far as Im aware theres only 1or 2 fonts legal, and you cant move letters and screws to spell out words etc. However u can mount it anywhere u want as long as its visible from 62ft.
If u get a random stop check it could be risky...(which ive seen being done in milton keynes a lot, where they go over the car with a fine tooth comb.)
I'd shy away from it, its not worth risking £1000, however i think its a catch u once ...tell u off...catch u twice...get ur wallet out ha ha!!
My mate has a jap import with a square plate on the back, got pulled over by police as his letters are 5mm smaller than legal standard.
Another mate had a classic mk 1 rs 2000, with black and silver plates however the car was first registered 6 months after the cut off date for cars allowed to display them and he got fined.
On the foglight side of things, I personally drive in countryside, when no one is around i put them on to help see all the suicidal animals that want to run out in front of the car. And this complys with the law as its so dark u cant seemore than a 100 meters unaided.
At other times tho It irritates the hell out of me in particular, people driving round with side lights and fog lights on!! do they not know how to work the controls ha ha!!
Also bright after market headlights, HIDS, coloured headlight bulbs, badly adjusted headlights with one pointing up to the sky (or right into other drivers eyes) and having on one light working are all other things that annoy the hell out of me and are gay ha ha!
