Changing An ECU

If i wanted to change my ECU can i get a 2nd hand one from a mk2 Ibiza in a scrappy or do i have to buy a new one? Or can i get a re-con from somewhere? If so, where?

Also, say i do get another ECU, it's not as simple as just plugging it in is it? I'd have to get it calibrated to work on my car, right? Would SEAT have to do this or could a VAG specailist do it? Anyone know roughly how much it would cost?

Thanks.

Well it's actually for my MK1 Toledo but i thought i'd post it in this section because it's more 'active' than the toledo section, and i think people know what they're talking about in this section.

Saying that, the Toledo and my Ibiza both use the same engine. 1.9TDI 90. They even have the same engine code (AHU).

Here's the fault... The engine cut out a couple of months back and it had to be towed. We took it to a garage who said the fuel cut off valve was faulty. I changed this but it didn't do anything. So i took it to SEAT and they traced it back to the ECU. They said i'd need a new one and it would cost £800. The car's only worth about £1000 so i asked if there was anything else they could do. So they re-wired the ecu, (whatever that means).

Anyway, we got the car back and it still wasn't/ still isn't performing correctly (low on power). It's fine up to about 2500 revs, but after that there's no boost at all and it really struggles to get to 3000 revs. I've had the car over 3000 revs so i don't think it's limp mode because i've heard if your car's in limp mode it won't rev above 3000 revs...

Also, recently my partner dropped her son at school, turned the engine off, but it didn't turn off. She had to leave the car running, even though the key was removed.:confused: This has happened about 3 times now...

Another long post... Sorry about that.

Thanks. I havn't tried a scrappy yet because i'm not sure if i can use one that's been used in another car... I'll try them though and see what they say.

Thanks again.
