Hi guys,

Just wondering has anyone DIY changed their fuel filters on a Cupra? Just wondering is there any precautions to take like venting the fuel system etc before taking the old one off.

When I did mine I pulled the fuel pump fuse then ran the car until it stalled. Fuel still came out when I changed the filter but at least it wasn't under pressure.

I'd strongly recommend you read the threads about how the fuel filter clips work, they are evil things that really don't want to come off.

I'm fairly sure it was inside the car, it's not a big fuse so there's no need for it to be in the engine bay. I seem to remember I needed to check the manual to know which one it was though, the panel has no indication that it is the fuel pump one.

You can change the fuel filter without any precautions. Not needed to remove the fp fuse or battery. When you pull out the filter some gasoline will leak but not that much and not at a so high pressure (only 6.4 bar compared to the 120+ bar on fuel pressure rail). The only thing you have to do after you install the new filter is to turn the key in the ignition, wait for the lights to dissapear, take out the key. Do this 3-4 times before you start the engine and that's it.

ONLY 6.4 bar?!

Personally I'd stick with removing the fuel pump fuse and having to cope with a tiny dribble.

I tried this myself and I made a big mistake by cutting the bracket off well almost all of it and now its held on via zip ties (was a bit er impatient at the time...) Anyways the filter filter is located at the rear of the car on the drivers side...there is 3 clips you need to press down hard to release (perhaps a bit of wd40 to work it a little but yea you will release them eventually...) and careful of petrol spraying everywhere especially in the face (stings)...

The metal strap holding my filter on disintegrated as I undid it, so mine is also held on with zip ties! :)
