Just had to share this experience and hope that someone can benefit from my hindsight.

The door lock barrel on my Mk1 leon seized and (at one point) nearly jammed the key in it!

I thought, in my ignorance that to replace the lock barrel would require removing the entire door card and inner panel, along with detaching the electric window.

When will I ever learn to RTFM!

What I discovered was the following:

1. You DO NOT need to remove the door card, inner panel or window to replace the lock barrel.
2. a replacement lock barrel and two keys costs just £12.50 on ebay.
3. to remove the old lock, just open the door and remove the small plastic disc cover inside the door near the handle and then loosen the T20 torx bolt.
4. The old lock should then slide out.
5. Job takes no more than 15 minutes.
6. I am a tw@t for not researching this first.

Hope this saves someone else a lot of trouble!

I have also replaced both lock barrels on my car beacuse both off them where defective but in my case i had to remove the door card, inner panels, windows regulators and the windows itself so that i can remove the lock barrels from Drivers Side only. I really don't know why i had to dissasemble everything and why my lock was stuck like that. But problem solved. Apparently the passengers side was easy as pie just unscrew the T20 torx bolt located on the side of the door handle, pull the handle and the lock barell and it's gone !! Replace the new one and it was ready.
