Happy Christmas all.

Can anyone help me locate the chassis number on a Mk1 Leon, please? Looked in the usual places, but cannot seem to find it easily.

Thanks, Dan. Unfortunately, it isn't there. Is there anywhere else it could be?

The last five digits of your VIN number are the chassis serial number.

The VIN code breaks down like this;
Code:
VSS ZZZ 1M Z 2B012345
||| ||| || | ||||||||
||| ||| || | ||++++++-Production sequence number (i.e. chassis number)
||| ||| || | |+-------Manufacturing plant (B = Brussels, Belgium)
||| ||| || | +--------Model Year - 2 = 2002
||| ||| || +----------Check digit - Z, filler
||| ||| ++------------Type code
||| +++---------------Vehicle Attributes - ZZZ, filler
+++-------------------Origin: VSS = Europe, Spain, SEAT

You should find the VIN number where Dan told you, and also on the scuttle panel under the plastic water tray beneath the rear edge of the bonnet.

Thanks for all your help with this one everybody.

Turns out the car doesn't actually have a VIN number...

That'll explain why the space for it at the bottom of the windscreen is blank.

That's the one, Dave. As the car is a works car i.e. it was built by Seat Sport as a racing car from the ground up, it doesn't have a chassis number, only a code on the shell.

This is going to be fun when trying to explain that one to the insurance company...

Thank you, everyone, for all your help though. It's really appreciated.

OK so if it was origionaly a race/rally with no vin no how do u go on @mot time bet thats fun tryin 2 find it on dvla's computer records?

i would imagine it will need an SVA test along with some arduous history paperwork/pleading and aggro to get it on road fully legal

depends on the angle you go by wether by date of build to get a proper plate or as new and do with a 'Q' ewwww
