I have recently brought a 2002 seat leon cupra and with service history etc is a resistor for the intake air temperature sensor, ive looked on ebay and that its a cheap mod for more bhp. Just wondering how safe it is to the engine and would it make much difference in performance? i have been told by my local mechanic it can cause problems.
cheers

bad idea, forget it, they dont work and will cause you problems... you have a very good engine there dont ruin it by purchasing ebay mods...

30% power increase for a fiver..... cmon pal really...

all it will do is make out that a temperature is something its not. So the correct fuelling is not achieved, but instead you run rich (as said above) which will result in a reduction in MPG and in all probability next to no difference in bhp. You could end up needing a new cat.
Id check that this is not fitted, or if it is remove it.

Best one is the glorified PC fan and cheap cone filter. Costs £200+ and the amount of people who've not only bought but have been crazy enough to leave positive feedback, makes me giggle like school kid with a 1/4 of gem gems.

It does basically what a knackered Thermostat does, don't rely on your dash gauge to give you a correct reading.

Mine was reading 90 deg but was only getting to 75 deg on my scangauge and DM200, and I'm sure vag-com would have been identical.

i wont be using it stick to how it is now, ill save up for a remap or superchip i think! thanks for your help!

I fitted one of these £20 jobbies to my 130tdi Superb.

1. did notice a small power increase
2. didn't notice any mpg change
3. did have engine management light come on.
4. did need temp sensor replacing
5. did remove unit after the platic casing started falling apart due to glue melting
6. don't bother!

I wish one day someone would just do this and see if it does work

drive aroud overfuelling on the choke all day carbonising your engine running it at a higher temperature than it needs to causing fuel to fill the cat and exhaust so it melts and burns away in half it's life all for a little minimal more power

feel free :):)
