Well actually I have found 3 stone chips just above the headlights.

2 of them have gone down to the metal and would need to be filled to get rid of them, but in the short term I just want to touch them up.

Does anyone know if the halfords Flash red touch up pens are the same as the emocion red.

The halfords stuf is: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/...rumb_33958-31329-31519_parentcategoryrn_38202

Or am I best going to the dealer.

Cheers
Lee

Quick guide for you ;)

Get the touch up paint from your dealer. You will get a tube of paint and a tube of clear coat (lacquer). Its less then £10. Cut some matchsticks to a sharp point. carefully use the match stick to apply the paint to the hole, making sure that you don't over build above the level of the surrounding paintwork. You want it to be completly red so that there is no sigh of the base coat or metal. (Otherwise it will show up through the clear coat) Let it dry.

Use the same method to fill in the hole with the clear coat. this time make sure you fill in above the level of the surrounding area. Let it dry.

Now get some of the finest grade wet & dry sand paper, and wrap it around something spongy but still firm. Dip it it the water and carefully and slowly sand back the clear coat that you have applied to the same level as the surrounding area. You will end up with a dull match.

Not get some Mer scratch remover paste or similar. Use a cloth and work in the paste the the dull area, keep doing this until the area is restored, and buff.

You can get the "Mer Professional Scratch Repair Kit" which has all the bits you need except for the paint. Also has a backing plate and foam mop head which you can use with a power-drill.

I use this method to remove scratches and stone chips, so that they are totally gone, and the area looks as good as new.

Good luck ;)

take some pics before and after so we can see the difference. If it works i might buy the kit that xe recommends as I am bound to get chips on my new car.

Ok dude calm down, the kit comes with a video (vhs) that explains exactly how to do it. Just take it slowly, step by step.

You need to use the finest grade wet & dry sandpaper (which u get in this kit) this is to bring the bulge of clear coat to the same level of the surrounding area, remember you need to keep dippiing it in the water and very softly sand it down, and keep looking at it. You can feel with your finger when its totally smooth. The mer scratch remover paste will remove the scratches made by the sand paper.

I have used this method to remove a big gash on my back bumper wheel arch. Which was about 10cm long and 1cm wide in places. Its as good as new now.

If the scratch is through the clear coat you don't need any paint. and if the scratch is light enough ie you can feel it, all you need is the mer scratch remover paste.

Don't forget you are going to get more stone chips, so wait awhile then get that panel resprayed if you want. No point in getting a respray for one chip.

The method I have described above is the same that they use in a repair garage. only i think I take more care then they would, plus I think i can do a better job of it too. ;)

It's wet and dry paper, this process is called wet sanding - be very very careful!

You need to make sure you purchase unigrit wet and dry paper. The grit in this stuff is all exactly the same grade. If you purchase normal wet and dry at say 2500 grit, this is just an average grade number so there may be larger pieces of grit which could cause a lot of damage.

Be sure not to go through the original clearcote on the area surroundin the chip.

I hope it goes well, cheers.

so that means I just need to build up the red to the same level.
