Hi my engine management light has been on due to the egr valve not working. I think? On my mk4 1.4 16v 100 I Thought about taking it off and giving it a gd clean out with carb cleaner. Would this work. And is it easy enoight to take of and put back on. And would I need to replace the gaskets.

The electronic EGR on the later 1.9 Tdi is very tricky to get at the allen key bolts and you need ball end keys.

Yours may be a bit easier though.

Yeah look easy to get to it's just in front of battery. Just don't want to take it off and then it needs gaskets and there is a way it's got to go bak on.

Just looked. Yours looks quite easy if its the square part on the front right.

You should be fine cleaning with carb cleaner. Personally I would replace any gaskets.

Ok thanks for that do you think I could get gaskets for it without buying new part

Have you tried finding my posting on this as it has the part numbers of the gaskets, all these parts can be ordered in from any VAG dealer, though some if not all will need to be ordered from the warehouse so will take two or three days. Remember I said that these EGR valves do not usually get dirty like the TDI do, it will just be the port in the TB.

Try looking on www.uk-polos.net the MK6 section, use the search function there - try "EGR valve cleaning" as a search phrase, I've just tried that without signing in and you will be able to search and find my posting on a thread started by "littlepolo". If you want to cross check any part numbers I've used, have a look at http://www.partscats.info/ the Seat section, it is tricky to use at first but once you have mastered it you should be able to find the correct part numbers and quote them to your VAG parts place.
