Milton Keynes
Evening chaps,

Since getting my 2.0 tdi 140 dsg, I'm a bit disappointed with the mpg I'm getting so far. Granted most of my driving is around town (Milton Keynes - short spurts between roundabouts) but I was just expecting a bit more form a diesel. I filled up on Wednesday and so far have covered about 220 miles with an average mpg of 35.8.

I've read a few comments on various forums referring to cleaning the inlet manifold and EGR to aid smooth running and improve fuel econemy. Can anyone advise me for or against this, and recomend the right stuff for me to do it, as well explaining how the hell I go about it :)

Cheers
Dan

i have the same engine and i need to know this too as my car seems to run rough on low revs it misses around 1.5 thousand revs and starts jerking violently ive bought some forte diesel cleaner this stuff is meant to clean out the fuel system and the egr valve my mate uses it on his bmw 330d and claims it works wonders for his mpg ang smooth running i got mine off ebay hope this helps mate

The car seems to be running smooth enough, certainly not getting any jerks or splutters - Like I say, just disappointed with the mpg so far and I definately do not thrash it.

im getting a bit concerned now im reading that the problem im having could be an injector leaking is this common on the 140pd engine but like i say give the forte a try its meant to be good

When u say clean the mag, what do u mean? Clean the holes in the end of it or does it have a resistor u can clean?

I have a similar prob with my pd170. Symptoms are after a motorway journey they car sound like it is running on 3 cylinders/burbbles like it has a load exhaust fitted. Also very stumbly. I average 38mpg which is ****.

Egr/ash is whinning, foes anyone know for sure if these 2 parts can cause these probs?

That's a dpf regen bud, pd170s are **** on fuel

does anybody have a guide on how to remove and clean the egr valve and what to clean it with dont want to take it off and end up doing more harm than good:confused:

Why would it regen after motorway driving at variable speeds?
Also I've just driven it to cornwall from stirling done over 12miles last week, took it on a 45 mile run yesterday and it did what u refer to as a regen. Never had any lights on dash, I've had the car since June and its done this about 6 or 7 times.

My last fr was great on fuel, I use to get about 49mpg on a long motorway run sitting at 80. This one got max 42mpg down to cornwall.

MATTFAS. There is a couple of threads on taking the egr apart, if u search egr valve they should come up. It's a lot easier on ur 140pd compared to the 170 pd.

If ur car shudder when u turn ignition off it needs a new asv(anti shudder valve)

That's a controlled regen, it's normal. The car has intervals of regeneration it does itself, no matter what driving you do. It won't throw up dash lights until it's full to a certain percentage. That's why you shouldn't switch the car off during a regen. I never had a regen, but I got shot of the dpf when the car was 6k miles old lol. There a pain in the a**e. 1.9tdi fr is a lot more fuel efficient than 2.0 tdi pd170

I thought it was a regen, but seams to do it quite a lot, could this be down to faulty asv/egr valve?

My last fr was a 170 pd not a 1.9 mk1. I use to get 50mpg approx.

Thanks mate - will look into this Forte stuff. Anyone else got any experience with this stuff or any other recomendations? I know BG do a good one too for the fuel system...

Can somebody also recomend what I need and how to clean the inlet manifold?

Thanks
