I've noticed this on other cars as well but seems to be more noticeable on the LCR. Braking at very low speeds and when reversing I hear a loud 'click' (clunk) type noise. It's not a continuous click (i.e. clicking). Does that make sense?

What could this be?

its the brake pads moving within the brembo calipers.
So will tend to happen when braking after when changing between forward and reverse gears.

Its a well known trait.

First time you use the brakes reversing, 'clonk', then first time braking in forward gear, 'clonk'.
No more 'clonks' until you use reverse again.

It its all the time, then it could be a bush, but in this case it certainly sounds like the pads.

sorry, pads moving the calipers or the pads moving inside the calipers?

So it's normal or is it a sign that the pads need changing?

Its the pads moving within the caliper and its normal

Aftermarket pads may help. From reading on here a set of DS2500's does the job

I was worried about the same thing, asked my mechanic to check it when i had it serviced last month and he said exactly the same. Its normal and not to worry about it. So i haven't anymore, haha!!

jack up car, remove front wheeles, knock out pins from calipers, pull out pads, squeeze back pistons, use a small stiff brush to brush away brake dust, get a torch.....have alook where the top and bottom of pads sit and u will see sum metal pads/spacers that are bolted in. now listen a sec..... as you mostly use your brakes goin forward, discs turning towards front of car, so when pads grip they are forced down so dont touch bottom metal pad/spacer.... get a small screw driver and very slightly tap it under the top metal pad/spacer bending it down only about 1mm.....do the same for all 4 front pads, check pads still slip in/out easy, apply v.small amount of copper slip to top/bottom/back of pads and refit pads and pins and anti rattle spring, wheels on, PUMP BRAKES before moving off!!
what you have done is make the gap smaller so pads dont move so far and when they do they are cushioned by the bent metal pad/spacer......NO KNOCKING NOISE!!!!

Yeah but I was told the clicking was from the rear calipers and Seat did mine on warranty while I had the brakes in for another issue. It was some sort of kit that moved the pads higher or something I can't remember but I never even had the problem

I have the same problem. The brake pads are moving in the caliper. Its because some aftermarket pads are 1mm short at the top and bottom of the pad and once the copper grease has dried up it begins to move under braking. Generally it happens once or twice at the beginning of a journey and thats it. Nothing to worry about really but it does my nut in so im going to change them.

all pads will do it, i am using the brembo ones and even they do it and they are made for the calipers!.... do what i said above its free and works did mine a year ago and still not clicking again.
