Hi to you all

Now that winter is upon us I have tried the "ECON" mode on my climate control

Very soon after pressing the button the car starts steaming up very quickly and the only way to clear it is to go back to the "AUTO" Mode.

As far as I know the ECON Mode should stop cooling effect from the compressor thus steaming up should not occur.

Has anyone else experienced this? or does anyone have any suggestions?

ECON
Switching the air conditioning system on and off
Pressing the button switches off the air conditioning system to save
fuel. The temperature continues to be regulated. The set temperature can
then only be reached if it is higher than the ambient temperature.

AirCon (AUTO Button) will remove any moisture within the car those demisting the car. either use the Auto Button or the Defrost (Windscreen) button to demist the car. do you use the recirculation button at all? this will definately mist up your car in wet or cold weather.

use of AC econ button

When the econ is shown on the heating and ventilation display is means the air conditioner is turned off. My previous car, a mazda had an econ setting that was a reduced power setting for the air con. This is not the case with the Altea. If you need to demist with the AC you need to press the ECON button to remove the ECON sign in the display. I found it strange when I first had the car but now have no problems and the system works very well.

Thanks for the replies so far
The reason for my asking is that on my previous 05 Altea the operation of the Econ button had no efect on the car steaming up.
Also on the 05 Altea I just left the Climate Control in the auto mode and it worked perfectly, however in this 08 Altea the Auto mode is far from satisfactory in as much as the problem I have already described and also that I have to keep adjusting the temperature and the fan speed and direction controls continually to acheive comfortable conditions in the car.

only thing I can think of is you have alot of moisture in your carpets or something that is causing the windows tomist up in the fist place. just chaeck your carpets and boot for any leaks incase there is excess water inside the car.

Hi Toxic

I do agree with your thoughts however I have checked the interior thoroughly and the carpets are bone dry.

After a journey from Poole the Knutsford services the problem disappeared so that when I turned to the Econ mode the car did not steam up.

I know wonder if I have a partially blocked Condensate Drain.

I will report back if and when I make further progress on this.

i've got a question related to the climate control.....

is it possible to make the temprature rise and fall on both side of the car at the same time at the same rate using one set of buttons if you get what i mean!!

my old s type jag had dual zone climate and if you dropped both of the sides down to the lowest setting then used the drivers side to raise them both side of them went up together
