Hi guys, sorry for my first post on here being one asking for advice but im pretty stuck and dont want to waste money!

Basically, I bought a Leon Mk1 TDI (Y plate) around a month ago with just under 100k miles, the car is excellent, drives really well, but im having issues with the climate control. Basically, I dont think the air conditioning part of it is working properly, on a hot day the air its blowing is slightly colder than ambient but not much, and realistically i have to open the window or it boils. On a colder day it works OK but i reckon this is just because the air outside is fairly cool anyway as I've driven it with the blowers on full and the air con off (no "ice" icon on the display) and the air isnt really any warmer.

I went to a few garages, quotes of around 40 quid for a re-gas, but some of them weren't convinced it would fix it, as it could be a sensor in the climate control or something similar.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Ben

can you hear the compresser click in when you turn the air con on?
If you can then it should need leak testing and re-gassing.
If not then its a new compresser.

Cheers for the reply, not 100% sure about it because its quite hard to tell over the "lovely" diesel idle noise but basically....

When I push the button theres a small click, i'd describe it as a "knock" sound from inside the console, and then the amount of fan noise from the system increases. Outside the car I cant hear anything, engine bay is very loud though obviously.

Is this the right noise?

My wifes Cupra had this, took it for a regas, the place reckoned it was a faulty sensor or relay - anyway, before going to Seat I looked at the fuse related to air con, sure enough knackered, replaced it and works perfect now :)

I swapped the windscreen washer fuse with the "heating/air conditioning" one and then sat in the car for about 10 minutes with the engine on and the air con on "LO" but no difference, the washers still worked too so the fuse must not be the issue.

Any more ideas?

From the symptoms you've described i would probs say its short on gas. It could be a sensor or a relay but i would go down the re-gas + leak test route first. Can you comfirm after running your air-con for about half an hour and then turning your car off do you notice any water on the floor dripping from the car?

Hi guys, quick update, had a garage look at the car, they put it up on the ramp and there's been some damage to the underside of the car, the compressor is ****ed .... could anyone point me to one on ebay/parts website/whatever that i could get and then pay labour for someone to fit it? It would be much appreciated,

Hey guys, I am a new member, and again apologies for the initial post asking for help...

Its a climate contrl issue. I have a cordoba 130 se and recently when the climate control is turned on the fan speed is irregular. The air is ice cold so its not a gas issue.

This happens at random. Today this morning, it was OK. This afternoon, I turned the air con temp to low and at full fan speed and the air was cold but the fan was spinning irregularly (as if it were swiching between speed 2 and 5.) Once I put it into reverse and back out again the fan speed went back to normal and had no problem.

I understand that the system goes into recirculate mode when in reverse, would that act as a temporary "reset"?

Any help would be much appreciated.

got a problem with my aircon as well.think its that anyway. got the car in october last year and it worked fine but the last couple of weeks when it kicks in it is really noisy and if you happen to turn the engine off when it kicks in you can feel it vibrating thought the floor and the cold air doesnt come through into the car anymore. could it just be needing a recharge or is something else humped?

cheers

You're saying its vibrating, i'd guess that the compressor clutch has gone.

back to the garage for me. i'm getting really good use of my warrenty lol and the best part is i'll get to drive a bright yellow ford Ka as a courtisy car till i get back the leon.

theres a list on here somewhere where you can get a diagnostic using a few button presses on the air con unit. you need to look for a pressure alarm. if it is there then you probably just need a gas refill. check the compressor revs too.

Hey guys, have been searching everywhere but no luck, the issue is with my aircon/climate control in a 2004 1.6 leon sx, when the aircon isnt on, everything runs fine, when i switch on the aircon, the air blowes cold, so daubt the problem is in a recharge, the problem that i am finding is, when i switch on the aircon, there is a little vibration in the clutch, i consider that to be normal, however when i am stuck in traffic, or idle with airon on, the car starts vibrating really hard inside, mentioning that the reves stay the same, so it could be some sort of fan, i dont know how to describe the sound, but its something like an old fridge, the vibration comes on for about 5 seconds and goes, and then repeats, as soon as i am driving it is all fine again... Now, i have read that it could be the aux fan balancing weights... could the reason to that be being me runing aicrcon cleaner into the system through the inside air intake under the glove box as i could of accidently touched the fan with the pipe? or could it be something else? if its the fan, how can it be fixed? and is it a hefty job, thanks alot Alex, Any help would be MUCH MUCH APRICIATED, would love to get it sorted!
