clock resets everytime i start the car

as above clock, date and mpg on the display unit reset everytime i start the car,

Starting to get fed up of it now any ideas why? And a possible fix guys???

Does it start ok ??
Either battery is on its way out or you have an earth problem with the radio

+1 for battery being first call!

The electrical items require a good 11.4 volts at all times to function correctly. In the factory repair manuals, a lot of fault correction starts with check the battery for 11.4v

Check your battery terminals, i once forgoten tighten them and every thign reset in a few mins when ignition is off

Did I say that fuse behind a head unit? In fact we're not even talking about a head unit..........

There's a fuse that controls permanent power to components, then when you turn ignition on that power is through another fuse and will enable things to power on....therefore if perm power is lost things will lose memory but turn on when you power the car on!

no? your car wouldn't start. If it hasn't got enough power to power a little clock it wouldn't start your car!

If you'd read the OP you should notice it says when he starts his car, (not just the ignition stage, which as you previously said if it was the fuse you speak of, simply switching the ignition on/off would clear the time.) so if the batt has enough to start the car but no reserve then the clock etc will lose info because all avail power is being used.

To the OP:
All fuses should be checked then a new battery fitted and take it from there. Eliminating power source problems and allowing you to continue to the next diagnostic stage.


I have seen a BMW which done odd things with an apparently perfect battery. Used to do funny things including putting all the windows down when starting or coming up with phantom faults. A new battery solved it all. Cars these days rely on computer power very heavily. And we all know computers aren't reliable!
