right guys,

I have had a bit of a search about but i'm not finding what i need.

I have had my car mapped at the weekend and know that the clutch will give up the ghost in the next 8-12 months - So I'm planning ahead. The car is an 04plate 130 TDI sport.

I have seen that either Sachs or Helix clutches are the way to go (probably Helix for more torque).... Now the question is do I replace the flywheel as well. I have heard that with a lightened flywheel there is "clutch chatter" what exactly is this and how bad can it be?

Also with a lightened flywheel with it alter where the power comes in?

Last but not least...... How easy or difficult is it to replace a clutch yourself?

Cheers

Mike

What power does the car have now after the remap? Generally most remaps would be within the range of the clutch, unless you have been getting vibrations from the fly wheel and clutch slip?

Changing a clutch is definately not something i would like to try myself. I have heard of Black diamond cluthes but never had experience with them myself.
A while back i had some flywheel vibration but just didnt put my foot down at silly times and it's fine.

Clutch chatter i would describe as a vibrating when idling.

Not too sure what power she is putting out now. Got a rolling road day coming up..... on the 21st feb....

If anyone can recommend other clutches that would be great.

Thanks

Right after a bit more digging around on the net i have found more information on clutch and flywheels.

my understanding has brought yet more questions....

So a single mass flywheel is a single plate that engages with the clutch where as a dual mass flywheel has 2 plates with the outer contact plate (to clutch) connected on springs that absorb some of the vibration and smooth the engagement of the clutch.

So a single mass flywheel is also lighter which will enable greater acceleration as there is less mass for the engine to turn. on the flip side of that it will be easier to stall as there is less momentum on the flywheel as there is less weight.

All in all this makes me think I need a Dual Mass flywheel. The only issue is that they tend to be matched to the power output of the engine..... now as mine isn't standard then question is.... where do I get one that can cope with this added power?

Is the Cupra TDi Flywheel the same as the PD130?

Will the cupra one fit my car (i think it should do but not 100%)

Any info would be great. Also if I'm wrong about any of the above... please feel free to set me straight.....

Cheers

cool cheers..... good to know i'm on the right track.

The local stealers want £410.44 +Vat for a new DMF.... not so happy about that.

Local motor factors have them on the shelf for £200 +vat. 1year warrenty or 12k miles.

What are your plans for the car? I'm going to order my clutch this week - helix clutch with single mass flywheel. If your not wanting any more power than you may be ok with a DMF
