It’s felt like the clutch has been dragging under load and there is also an engine speed dependent ticking noise coming from the pedal box on idle, a mechanic we know suggested it needs new clutch and bearing, it’s done 40k miles, 1.4 TSI FR. Anyone else had similar issues and anyone got a rough idea of cost to replace, thanks

I bought a Golf R line 1.4tsi (150bhp) in February and within a couple of weeks noticed that when on cold start there was a knocking noise, like a chattering. When I pressed the clutch it went away and when the engine was up to temp it was less noticeable. There was also an intermittent shudder when pulling away in 1st gear. Too cut a very long story shorter VW couldn't find a fault and said let it develop. 4 months of ownership, off the road for 4 weeks and 4 different courtesy cars later they finally accepted the car back. A new clutch and flywheel plus Labour will be around £1400.

Arnold Clark and VW UK customer service suck!
