this is the bit that breaks!

Yes, mine is not in a good state. Hard to believe that the car still drives.
This welding job lasted about 3000 miles before the weld to the bulk head failed, still driving though. Just need to get something more done to get another couple of thousand miles.

Three months later and one of the welds has failed. Pedal is still working but just waiting for it to go to the floor and stay there. I have a friend who is a welder and can build anything out of anything (as long as it is metal). Going to get him to look at it on Friday. Need to get a couple of months more out of it before MOT is up in August. Only 73K on the clock but at 11 years old it is not worth spending the money to keep it on the road. Hopefully I will have enough money put away by that time to pick up a second hand mark 4. Maybe a Tdi 130 if I really get my head down.

Still worth 1k-ish if its well cared for. If you can get someone with a welder in there and do it properly you should get years.

My metal glue reinforcement is still working a treat.

Maybe copy it but weld the braces on instead?

I wouldn't mind keeping this car but it really is worth nothing because there is several hundred pounds woth of damage to the bodywork. 2 doors, the bonnet and a wing. It was vandalized one night while parked in my local town a couple of years ago. I only paid £1200 for it 4 years ago when it was mint and had only 25k on the clock. It has done me well and owes me absolutely nothing. Will just be happy to get a few more months. I have full faith in the guy I am meeting on Friday to decide on a good short term solution to the pedal box.

a new cable is a must as you did already, gotta admit it's painful having to pay for work like that though

any mates like spinning a spanner or two fancy a few beers for a weekend helping ??
