Sorry mods probably the wrong section but need a quickish reply from those who have had coil pack failure as i'm pretty sure i've just experienced it aswell:cry:

I went to put my foot down in 3rd, turbo come on boost then the car held back and the engine warning light started flashing at me. I went to accelerate again and it was very rough and wouldn't really let me. the car was holding back.

I was about 3 miles from my house so i drove slowly back with the warning light still flashing at me, got onto my street stopped the engine which sounded rough, and plugged in my fault code reader. Here are the 3 faults recorded....

Misfire detected
Cylinder 1 Misfiring recognised
Fuel status too low

I started it up again and the engine sounds like a bag of spanners:cry: I thought for a minute i had spat out a rod but im sure i would know about that and it wouldn't have been driveable!

Not sure what that fuel status too low fault is either?

Does this sound like coil pack failure from the people who have experienced it before? If so how much is a coil pack and are they easy to change? Oh and how much?

Also can i just get an ordinary 1.8T coil pack from say a golf etc or does it need to be from a SEAT garage? Ive got a VW/Audi garage near me, but not a SEAT.

Mods sorry for posting in wrong section, just need a quick answer:)

I had a coil pack failure on my old IBIZA and it manifests itself as a lack of power and also the engine will vibrate due to the car not running on all cylinders so is not balanced, SEAT replaced mine free of charge as it was a recognised fault that they origianlly de a recall for but not sure if thats still the case I would personally conact your local dealer and find out what the crack is and if they don't play ball go for the Mr Angry approach.

Good luck

dont know about the fuel, but def sounds like coilpack...
how old is the car? if you still have SEAT assistance, call em out, they should have a spare on the van. If not then to the dealer...although you can get em from euro car parts for about 17 quid, I just ordered 2 spares after one went pop on saturday..I'll check and dig out the part number...

well im sure sure if im having this problem, in 3rd gear the car stays dying ait goes throught the revs, when it hit 5ooorpm it jams up for few seconds, and it starts slowing down after that.

well mines was the lambda sensor and the N75 valve that totaly packed up! car now runs perfectly throught each gear with out any hestation or boost peaks

Might be worth getting a set of the old TT bolt down units (hitach sp?) i think. Either that or the holders that bolt the new ones to the rocker cover, as vibration is one of the main causes of coil pack failure (or so ive been told)

Yeah im now going to keep a spare 1 in the glovebox just incase it happens again.

Cylinders 1+2 are a 2minute job to change and require no tools but 3+4 are a bit more time consuming as they are a bit more difficult to get too.

Arosa racer, if your going to keep a spare, you'll also need to keep a fault code reader aswell otherwise you wont know which cylinder is misfiring. They're about £35 on ebay and so far it has proven to be very useful for me:)

It cost £32 from an Audi dealer. Only took 2 mins to replace and all was fine again:)

Im sure you can source them for around £20 though on the web.

No the turbo is fine:)

Quick tip there if you're stck without vag-com or a fault code reader is to disconnect the injectors, one by one and quickly reconnect them.

The cylinder with the duff coilpack will be the one where tickover doesn't change (in other words when you disconnect the injector on a cylinder that has a good coilpack, the engine will momentarily drop onto two cylinders).

Best to be quick mind.

The dealer should replace faulty coil packs for free, as it was a recall and recognised issue. I had all 4 of mine replaced after only one went (when I had the REVO trial), after kicking up a fuss with SEAT Customer Care, despite my car being over 5 yrs old at the time and out of warranty!
Get on to them and demand it ;)
