I had a coil pack go on christmas eve at 6am on the way to work. Thank god I kept a spare in the boot!!!!!
think I might get another just in case!!!!!!!!!
thanks
Phil

Yeah im now going to keep a spare 1 in the glovebox just incase it happens again.

Cylinders 1+2 are a 2minute job to change and require no tools but 3+4 are a bit more time consuming as they are a bit more difficult to get too.

Arosa racer, if your going to keep a spare, you'll also need to keep a fault code reader aswell otherwise you wont know which cylinder is misfiring. They're about £35 on ebay and so far it has proven to be very useful for me:)

Is this fault code reader the one you have?

Looks like a good bit of kit for the price. Might get one myself as after the new year i'm looking to get an LCR :) and it might be handy to do a check on any cars i look at so as not to end up with a lemon.

Glad you got yours sorted too m8 :)

Just an update on this....

I had number 1 misfire 18th december so coilpack 1 replaced.

Number 3 cylinder misfire detected middle of january so that was replaced also.

I had number 2 cylinder misfire last night so i used my spare for that.

And the inevitable happened this morning, number 4 cylinder:cry:

So yes when people say if you lose 1, replace them all, its very good advice:D

I had to phone the AA to get them to come and replace the coilpack today as i used my spare yesterday )

All 4 failed within 6 weeks of each other:blink:

Should give you an extra week then!
Maybe a look into the coil pack brkts that hold them down and reduce vibration which "supposedly" kills Coils

Nah, i think its a mileage thing to be honest:)

Engine at 55k and no failures before this, and 4 failures all happening within 6 wks of each other.

All coilpacks are now under a years warranty so it at least buys me a year lol:D

same thing with me 57k then 3 coil packs in 2 and a bit weeks still a bit dodgy when its floored but am trying to find out the prob

That will be your 4th and final coilpack probably, either that or perhaps a sparkplug has been damaged in the process

how do you know the coil pack is on its way?
My car dies out at 6000rpm before it hit readlines, could this be a cause?

You dont really until you get an ecu warning light flashing at you and a horrible hesitation when you apply the throttle. It is still driveable on 3 cylinders but should only be done for a short period of time at minimal revs.

did the 4th pack about 6wks ago , also new platinum tipped plugs when i did the coil packs and cleaned the dv and new turbo intake pipe from forge gonna try the n75v now .......clutching at straws

You tried logging MAF?

Always a suspect on an underperforming vag engine

Wildwilly is in south wales. May be worth asking him to help you out as i know he has vagcom.

Is there any drop in boost on your gauge or are you still holding boost the way you normally do?

there was a drop in boost til i changed the TIP now it pulls better and smoother than ever but at about 20psi i get a weird splutter and a pop out of the back box like as if the boost just spiked to much if i go easier on the gas more gradual then i dont get it . its only when i floor it (which is my favourite part)

sorry to drag this up from the past my number 1 coil pack has just gone had to join the AA as in middle of no where cost me in total £228 to join/call out and part. Problem is when booting it the car still feels like a sack of shite do i need to reset the faults/ecu after putting the new pack in or is there something else wrong

the car is at 56k miles and i have already replaced number 2 as that caught fire on me last year

Ben its a slippery slope when 1 goes, the remaining 3 will be on there way also.

That may be the reason why its still running ****. i had 2 go within 24 hrs of 1 another!

I get my AA cover free with my bank (lloyds tsb gold account) Missus gets her free aswell (barclays addition)

Your bank not do something similar?
