Hi, im new to this site, i came accross some problems but read on another thread which helped, my car wouldnt go above 120mph, which is fast enough anyway, but i wanted to test it as it didnt feel 100percent, it feels rough and judders at times, the revs go up and down now and again, i read on another thread that someone else had the same problems and it turned out to be the coil pack. The problem is i had 3 of my coils changed earlier this year but cannot remember which ones, t any idea best sollution to find out which remaining one needs changing as i have no idea and do not remember which ones i already replaced. the management light has not shown up yet but after reading the other thread i believe the reamaining one will be going..any idea how i can find which remaining one needs changing?

pull each one at a time, and if it makes no difference to the tickover then it that one, or use vagcom for the miss fire recognition, also your probs may not be coil pack, after reading threads on here i instantly thought coil packs, but i serviced the car with new plugs, filters etc and the rough idling and hesitations dissapeared instant, iv since been mapped and still no probs from the coil packs

If you have 3 out of 4 already replaced, chances are you'll be able to see which one is left when you pull them out. It will either be dirtier than the others, or worst case rustier than the others.

However, there is no guarantee that is the faulty one, as I've had brand new coils fail earlier than originals. VAGCOM is the easiest way to diagnose which one is failing.

Have a look at the part numbers, the number should end with a letter. Each time VW made a revision of this part, the lett would move further down the alphabet so for example, your new coilpacks might say 1234-Y and your old one might say 1234-J. This is unless they replaced them with older revisions of course.

True. Each 'move up the alphabet' was an improvement in spec/reliability.

Some parts suppliers will try and tell you that Hitachi-made coils are best, irrespective of part number's last letter. Cobblers!

Had a J-spec coil die in June '08; replaced it, and remaining Js, for Ys and not had - touches wood - any coil pack-related problems since :)
