Feeling the urge to return to the Seat brand, considering a new Leon FR 1.4 Eco tsi 150bhp in 5 door trim.

Questions are:
What's the real mpg knocking about ?
What's the power/torque like ?
Has the build quality improved ?
Any other general info I should be aware of !!

PS, a 15 min test drive doesn't really spell the big picture.

Comments very grateful.

To answer your four questions:-

About 40mpg - more or less possibly, but it depends on your right foot.

Fantastic for such a small engine.

Yes.

Make sure you order the right options . It's difficult to change once ordered.

Welcome back

I have the older 1.4TSI and love it.

What's the real mpg knocking about ?

Im getting high 40's (around 46 / 47mpg long term) and I have a pretty heavy right foot aswell sometimes.

What's the power/torque like ?

I moved from a 85hp Ibiza so a massive difference for me. The car pulls really well and I def wouldn't need any more power for every day driving.

Has the build quality improved ?

Compared to what? Compared to the Ibiza / MK2 Leon there is a massive improvement. The new Leon has a much better build quality.

The 1.4 Act averages around 45mpg give or take a few. I've managed everything from 35-55 though.

The power is spot on for all my needs

Build quality is great, minus the door card rattles.

My long term mpg is showing at 46 and this tallies with the petrol bills. most of my journeys are local 5 -12 miles at a time.

I have come from Audi's and find the build Q reasonably good, especially considering the equipment level too.

A very punchy little engine, certainly feels like a bigger than it is.

Just a heads up, the paint they use is absolute rubbish. From a 30 mins drive I found 2 new scratches on my front bumper from tiny bits flying from the road and hitting the bumper.

Following Thread for other reviews, Currently have a Mk4 Toledo and will be looking to change it come new year (Currently On a PCP Finance deal) Im looking at the 1.4 FR for insurance but the Cupra is only £50 a year on insurance makes me want one :)

Build quality on the new ones is better than the old one except as others have mentioned, the dreaded door card rattles.
Just make sure all the extras you want are in the packs or are on the car as I found out when I went to look at one that the Auto lights and wipers that were included before are now a pack and have to be ordered as such.

I've got the 1.4 150 ACT (now called Eco) in the ST body style.

The engine is certainly punchy enough, and is undeniably a very clever bit of kit with the cylinder deactivation - but of course for the real fun you'll need to go for one of the higher output engines. Depends what you are looking for really. I'm glad I went for this engine since it strikes the right balance between performance and running costs for me, plus it's a good looking car in FR trim!

I'm currently averaging over 42 MPG which is lower than some others on this thread. This is a mix of short journeys in town and occasional long but heavily-laden journeys. I've had nearly 50MPG on the odd trip, without deliberately driving conservatively.

Build quality is pretty good - no complaints after one year of ownership. I sometimes get a very minor vibration noise from the driver's door trim, but it's not bothering me enough to go through the hassle of getting it investigated since there's always a risk that dismantling and reassembling will make things worse!

I would recommend having a drive in a 1.8 if you can source one.

Appears to be very well received on here (myself included). Ok so road tax is more but in return the performance is improved as well as the addition of bigger brakes, independent rear suspension etc.

45+ MPG is easily achievable on a run. My long term is around 37 MPG but alot of mine is short journeys.

The same thought im currently having. Thinking its time to swap the Cupra which has served me well.

Im looking at the 1.4 tsi act as it looks a good all round package. Im just nervous I will miss the pull my little Cupra has when needed.

Well I test drove a MY16 FR with the 150 act tsi engine. Was impressed considering the size of it. The quality seems to have moved on a little but still not quite as good as the current mini I have. Half hour test drive showed 38mpg average so not bad but my cooper s is returning 37/38 mpg average.
I used to have a 1.8tsi and that used to average 37/38 mpg to.
Liked the convenience pack plus, liked the updated LED headlights (slightly darker than the 2013 ones), liked the updated infotainment system, only thing missing was heated seats (its an age thing).
Obviously more space than the mini but like you matthab "will I miss the power" of my current stead.
Decisions decisions.
