Condensation inside rear light

Hi all,

New member, so sorry if this has already been asked (I have had a quick look).

I just picked up my Seat Ibiza 1.4 SE 09 plate from the Marshall dealership in Leicester last Thursday. I have noticed yesterday that there is some condensation on the inside of the glass of the rear driver's side light.

My question is, is this something i should take back to the dealership or is it not a big issue? the reason I am contemplating taking it back or not is that I live in Coventry, and the Leicester dealership is a 44 mile round trip.

It's normal mate, if there is a pool of water I would go back to the dealers.

There is no pool of water that i've noticed. I will keep an eye on it though.

No worries mate, it usually evaporates after a while. You will really notice it as the weather gets colder.

Yeah I thought as much.

I don't mind it being there, I just wondered wether they were supposed to be a sealed unit. Come to think of it though, I suppose if you can change the bulb, then it can't be a sealed unit.

The only other solution is to put one of those gel bag things in the headlamp bit. What you get with shoes etc.

Silica gel, I know what you mean. Could try that, not a bad idea just to dry it up, might be tricky to get back out again though. Thanks

One thing to watch out for is water can get into the central high level brake light and cause the LEDs to fail meaning it only partially lights up, happened to mine needed replacing under warranty. No warning light on dash.

There is a dealership in Coventry (Listers on the Brandon Road) - that would save a round trip to Leicester. If its warranty work I'm quite sure they would help.

Yeah, trying to avoid them though. I was supposed to buy a car from them, but a better deal came up in Leicester. Cowardly I know, but come on, we are in a recession and all! haha

Just an update for this as I remember someone else said they were also suffering with condensation inside their light. When I took my car to the SEAT garage for something unrelated, they offered to replace the light free of charge on the warranty. Apparently there has been a technical note released by SEAT that says the light should be replaced on warranty. I guess there was some fault with it after all.

I've had this on a few cars, it happens mostly in cold weather when washing it with hot water, I hate the look of it but it's soon dried up. It's never happened to me on a rear light, only the headlights. It's good that Seat are replacing the lenses for ya. I'll have to keep an eye on ours but so far so good i think!

My bloody smoked side repeater has started to do it. Gonna have to pop it out i think and give it a blitz with my hair dryer then try and seal it up.
