as long as its the right diameter neck to fit onto the maf itll be a breeze mate, do you have an breather filter in the package or does it connect into the kit itself?

Not sure mate, its a powertec one i got off ebay. Pic on the box has another little pipe comming off but when i opened the box it just straight without pipe.
Its has a bracket, largr hose clip and a mini clamp in box. Has cupra r 225 on piece off paper in box but got me thinking as not sure about the little pipe.

Cheers

steel mesh is going to make it sound a bit wierd, most others are cotton or foam filters. be careful that it isnt oiled. maf sensors dont like oil.

oh.. i just picked up one of these. not off ebay however so hopefully it'll have all the extras needed to do the job. either way i hope as you say it doesnt sound 'wierd' or out of place. anyone heard or seen one or know anyone who has one?! By the way it's for my 1.6sx. I hope it doesnt suck :headhurt:
cheers

hmmm, i spend my life buying in to a false economy. Thing is you win some you loose some - this isnt gona be the first in a long list of mods as it's only the 1.6 and I have decided it wont be worth the small power gains. When I get my LCR however.....;)

thanks for the input

eegh rubbish! My powertec induction kit arrived but I have a problem....
The engine cover is covering the filter box and I cant get it off. looks like there's a load of screws holding it in place - some of which im never going to get to with out pulling out a load of hoses and fittings. The fitting guide that came with it says the original box filter is situated on the right of the engine bay (as you look down towards it) so i've also been sold the wrong thing i guess.
I hear of a few people on here who fitted this particular kit and have no problems - how did you get the engine cover off?! Bearing in mind im new to this and am not too mechanicaly minded  also it looks like the new filter wont fit in the direction the intake is facing. i mean seat could have use a couple of tough clips or something:doh:

cheers

stainless steel type filtres dont filter dust.
expect engine wear and valve seats to not seal so well as they get peppered with debris.

Not advised. no matter how cheap they seem, or how nice they sound.

I finally got it fitted..... This is the powertec kit. Steve2k6, if you haven't already managed to fit yours or get the right part this might be of use. You need the SL1 kit for "various 16v VAG engines". Turns out some of the polo's and golf's have the same format. The MAF inlet points upwards after you take the engine cover off so you need this kit with a 90degree bend in. It also 'does' have the breather pipe and a tube & adaptor to fit the existing one in to. Hope this helps.
The kit btw seems pretty good - growls quite nicely, minimal power gains but you will feel the difference in throttle response through the gears. Looks pretty cool too
