Clacton On Sea
Hi all,

I am looking to remove the gear gaitor surround so i can paint/wrap it as its chipped and i dont like it.

Now, i can unclip it from the console, but the leather seems to be "clipped" in and looks like a sod to get out.

I looked at this link: http://www.seatcupra.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=544&Itemid=6 and tbh i feel more confused now! haha.

Is there an easy way to remove the gaitor and then refit... preferably someone who's done it can tell me? i dont want to bork it and end up running without a gaitor.

Cheers!

it can be removed and re fitted. i changed the gator on mine.. cant remember how i done it do lol. it was ages ago...

Piece a cake!

Two clips on the gear knob, one metal compression clip holding the whole lot to the lever (gold one in the second pic on the guide), and a black plastic compression clip holding the gaitor to the knob.

Open out the metal compression clip to detatch from the lever.

Slide the two locking surfaces on the black plastic clip sideways to open it up and release the gaitor.

The gaitor comes off downwards.

Reverse all this to refit.

After saying all that, I dont think the gaitor can be separated from the surround to the dash as I think it was heat staked into the plastic.

it can be done. as i said in my post above i changed the gator on mine

whoops, must have missed your post then! sorry fella.

Right i will have a crack and see how i get the gaitor from it.

Not going to vinyl wrap now i dont think, might just spray it.

ok i have my old one here! i broke a lump out of it when i was changing the gator. you need to be very carefull removing the surround. its held on with clips at the bottom. you dont need to remove the knob and gator to take off the surround
