Hi Folks,
Newbie to the forum here. Considering moving to an Ibiza, but have a set of questions and would appreciate any answers/opinions you can offer.
So to give you a bit of background. I was running a Mk5 Golf GT TDi until recently. It was starting to get a little long in the tooth and I'm getting married next summer, so rightly or wrongly we decided to change the car now, so we wouldn't have to worry about it in the midst of trying to pay for a wedding.
I looked at a Fabia vRS brand new for a while, especially as they were effectively VAT free thanks to some of the offers available. One of the reasons for this is I love the VAG group, and want something that'll be covered by warranty for a while to give me a little more protection should anything go wrong. It also helped that the Fabia was considerably cheaper than the Polo, which meant I could afford a lot more kit, and I'm a bit of an options list fetishist!
I had previously dismissed the Ibiza as it doesn't have the same form-factor head-unit that the Skoda's and VW's do, which meant no potential for adding an OEM VAG SatNav unit. (Or indeed speccing one from new. I'm not a fan of the TomTom oojima SEAT offer.)
After a bit of umming and ah-ing, someone happened to mention that they knew of a new-shape Astra J with more or less all the bells and whistles going for an absolute steal near me. The compromise was that it was a 1.6T. So it had every option I could possibly want, but not the actual engine. I figured that would be ok, and I'd bear the fuel inefficiency so I snapped it up.
Sadly that doesn't seem to be the case. A couple of months in and I'm getting increasingly upset by the battle to get to the 35mpg. Just to make matters more awkward, a change in job-roles means my annual mileage means that I'm doing 80 miles a day round the M25 3-4 days a week.
So now you know a little about where I'm coming from, here's the questions...
I'm considering an Ibiza FR 2.0 TDi, probably the SC.
1) Fuel economy. (I can guess how varied the answers on this might be, but comments please!)
2) Driving - does the diesel engine feel like it's weighing a relatively small car down? I'm after something spritely, and with plenty of torque at 60-70mph while cruising.
3) Head unit. What's it like? Clear, easy to use?
4) iPod integration. Assuming I get the SEAT cable, does it work well on the headunit? It looks like quite a small screen to me, how much does it show? How do you search for artists/albums etc?
5) MFD - what options can you see on the FR? Avg MPG, AVG Speed, Current Speed, Outside Temperature, Trip 1, Trip 2 and remaining range? (Please advise which of these can be seen and any I've missed?)
Any pointers/advice/opinions are very welcome. Photos/videos of the headunit and/or MFD in action would be fantastic. (YouTube seems to be full of walk-arounds and 0-100kph sprints.)
Cheers.
(I'm sure I'll think of other questions over the next few days!)
