Just rang mate up who owns a garage, he said he's never heard of that! He said he can possibly understand if it was the spark plugs you was on about.... As the coil pack should be ready to go in....

Also thinks it could be other 3 coils on their way as I did run about 5 miles or so on a ****ed coil

good. I thought he meant the coil packs. He said that he's never heard of it on the coils.... lol

just sent him a text with what's been said on here, he said guy who put em in should have checked. I told him they went from box to engine in about 2mins IIRC. Anyway, he said to pop it down and they'll double check and said they should be fine as Paul (lad who put em in) has been a mechanic for 20years and he can tell by looking lol

Oh well, off to garage next week

The two bottom descriptions are what you need to check "gaping plugs" means to check the gap between these two items to maximise spark efficiency, too big the spark won't beable to "jump the gap" and to smal will produce an inferior spark, Hope this helps you Mat!

I thought that's what he meant when i realised he was on about spark plugs :D

went to mates garage today (got to finish work early), took all plugs out and they ain't like that pic. They have 3 tips at the end instead of th eone (dunno proper name). Put em back in and worked fine. Must have been one put in a bit wrong or summat

However, I've now discovered a new noise. When I change gear and then put foot on accelerator or let off accelerator, I can hear a "clunking" sound. SOunds like it's coming from the gear box as thos i'm selecting a gear. Every time I put foot on accelerator or let off it makes the noise

Electrodes is the word i think your looking for, i had bosch ones with 3 electrodes on and they were alright for a while but recently changed to ngk pfr6q's as i had a misfire problem and they seem fine aswell.

The clunking could be a enigne mount going or gone by what you describe as the engine is rocking under accelerating then rocking under de-acceleration, just a thought might be worth a look.

Clunkin round has kinda disappeared. Maybe i was paranoid. The misfire came back tonight :( gonna re-fit old sparks. If that doesn't solve it, it must me a coil pack issue

not got VAG COM :( My laptop is foo-bard! They do have one of those diagnostic things tho

diagnostic things work mat. Thats what I've been using last year and a half.

Only shows code and deletes them though. no logs possible.

did your mate end up checking the distance of the spark plugs?

was no need to check apparently as there's 3 electrodes not one

edit: decided to tell em last night to save my old spark plugs and i'll pick them up and put em back in. If it works with them in, then it's an issue with the new spark plugs. If I get the same problem, then it must be an issue with the coil packs.

Managed to get half day today, so popped to mates garage.

right then, not got a working copy of VAG COM, so ran their diagnostics thing on it, and no codes. So took all plugs out, with the intention of putting old ones back in. Mate suggested getting new ones. So went back to parts place, and the only ones they have on their system is the NGK 3 Electrode ones that I have in... Does anyone else use these 3 electrode plugs?

Whilst there, ordered 3 coil packs which should arrive 2moz (pick em up fri unless I get an early day).

Anyway, put spark plugs back in, and coil packs back in, and running ok. However, this was the case yesterday, removed and replaced and issue sorted. Few hours later and only about 5 miles, mis-fire again lol

New Coil Packs in today. Noticed on the 4th Coil Pack that the clip that holds the plug on has broke. The small bit hat you push down. They said maybe that could have an effect! Stopped mis-firing all the time since yesterday. Only happened 3 times. So if it is that, I will need to cable tie it so it stay firmly on
