Could I do an engine swap - R32 lump into my 2001 ibiza cupra

not an easy job...and it is a heavier engine...but it is definately worth a go imo, the 4motion will sort out the handling to some extent

all the people saying "oh a tuned 1.8T is quicker, its pointless"..er...it certainly isnt pointless!

the fact is over 300bhp on a FWD car is pretty much pointless

save your money dump the r32 in, then get it turbocharged when you can afford it...if you really went for it you could see serious speeds, 4wd means ultimate traction ...see this video:

0-60 in 2.88 secs...in a golf.....imagine that in the ibiza chassis (same chassis as a mk5 polo!)

Oh yeah great lets actually 4x4 the ibiza and not just put the r32 engine in. Can you note a tone of sarcasm in my voice!

Lets just say if you think it was that easy dont you think there would be a few 4x4 ibizas around? People have looked at 4x4 and its a £10k plus job without the actual engine conversion! Oh and the 4x4 has to have 6speed box as far as im aware which is quite abit bigger than the ibiza one and the ibiza bay is tiny as we know so you will have to either cut a chassis leg in half length ways or space frame it.

I know its a different league but look at Bill. He has near on 600bhp in a front wheel drive car and yes its an animal but not pointless and is very useable especiallyon track.

Fact is I would rather have a 1.8T 4x4 than an R32 4x4 as the v6 still is not very powerful or tuneable until you go forced induction which is more money than going BT 1.8T for the same power.

i work for vw and to be honest r32 for what they are ,are slow. u get in a lcr and u can p1ss all over a r32 and without spending massive amounts on turbos or superchargers there is no point.

I never said it was going to be cheap lol! thats why i'm going out and buying an r32 when i can afford it! but I personally dont see the point in spending THAT much money on a FWD car, 600 horses is insane and fair play to him, but he will never get all that power down!

i'd rather save for a bit and turbo a 4wd car....I was clearly stating that it isnt pointless to get the R32 lump going in an ibiza, it would be amazing if you had the time and money

This was the original question though shanty.

My mate has offered me a R32 dadly damged rear ender would it be posible to drop the R32 lump in my 2001 ibiza cupra and if so dose any one know how much work would go into it and if i would need any extra bits thank you

It only asked about the engine which is a v.hard task itself not the 4x4 which is pretty much an impossible home conversion and costs £'000s if done professionally. Its about whether its easy for them to do which its is v.hard.

The r32 engine is also not a powerful one unless it has forced induction and that costs alot aswell. The r32 is not a fast car and not just because of its engine but because it weighs so much aswell. To get a 3-4 sec to 60mph r32 you are talking spending more than the cost of the car again.

Bills car uses its power very well and all of it when he can or he wouldnt have tuned it to the extent it is.

too complex for what you'd get out of it so not worth doing in my book

as fwd it would be slower than a modified 1.8T, but even if you did manage to fit the 4wd gear god knows what stress this would put on an already dodgy ride.

I know someone who wants a 1.8T for his mk1 golf, Put the R32 engine in yours and he will buy your 1.8T for defo

As above, the effort to gain ratio is far outweighed as that lump isn't gonna be quick without spending silly money on it, and spending the same money on a 1.8T would be far more beneficial. Kudos for the idea though.

sounds like a good idea but alot of hard work il probly repair the R32 and sell it their tools buts theirs to many golfs on the road use the money to tune 1.8t

Thats what i want to do in the future to a nice new shape black caddy slammed on a set of WORK wheels with some mad dish to them! :p:clap:

dont forget the roof chop as well :)

must admit i'm tempted at an early euro diesel - must be easier to smooth the engine bay :whistle:
