crank sensor position

been having problems starting my car so i got it checked out today by my local garage who said it was the crank sensor. can anyone tell me where the crank position sensor is and what it looks like.

Ideally need to know if its the cam position sensor which is on the left hand side of the head, or if its one of the three sensors which connect under the intake manifold and run to the block.

if its the cam sensor , i have a spare one , that i took of my golf thinking it was gone , but it hadnt ,
