Tell them you'll take the £900 if they give you the car back unregistered, if they want to give you a CAT D back tell them its £1500.00 or they can bring you the car back untouched and take the hire car back at the same time. DO NOT give them the hire car back until you get yours.
I'm sure you'll either get it back unfixed and un registered or the full amount, you can then take it up with your bosses. ( you can always deliberately stack a mail van at a later date

That really does suck mate. It will be such a shame if you cant get the car back. You have put so much money and effort into it getting the engine re-built and looking the way it does. And it does look great.

And if you don't its really gonna irratate my mrs as i'll have to track it down and have it for me
well, i can get the car back and also a cheque for £900 but will have to sort the damage myself..this maybe the best option as i could get the car compleatly done for that amount. but if i push to much for the overall estimate of the cars value they may end up repairing it, which would just be the front end... i need to think whats best...im thinking take the money and car

it will be registered, they wont let me have the car unregistered unless i pull the claim..andif i pull the claim i wont get any money.. cat d is only a write off for finacial reasons anyway so isint too bad, and the amount of money ive spent on this car, doubt its going to be sold

im still on the case for them not to write it off.. but i havnt got the money to repair it, just had my final bill for my engine paid 2 weks ago..im skint and i would hat eit if royal mail got off without paying anything.... and cat is only registered with hpi...not with dvla or anyone else
on the mot it wont come up at all.... do that a good thing and if take loads of pics of the damage and get recipets etc for work done to the damage as show it not bad wont matter to the new owner later on in life in they cam see it was minor and only a cat d as insurance been ares
i would use the argument that as it wasn't your fault you could demand the satisfaction of having it repaired to as it was condition, at the end of the day - uneconomical or not it's not up you to lose out as you are the innocent party here.
if they wish to write off the vehicle they will have to reimburse you with enough to cover costs of replacing the vehicle with an equivalent make model and condition looking at 2k if you pushed it from a dealer IF you can find one - then your inconvenience - costs and loss of time earnings etc
they are writing it off as THEY deem it cheaper for THEM

i reckon anything between £900-£1500 with the car returned isn't bad and not registered if you can push it would be a bonus as you have to think what happens if 50% of your insurance quotes vanish as it's registered as a write off?
i would give it the mid conversation 'eureka' moment, as the conversation is stalling something like:
'HANG ON A SEC, did i drive into the vehicle? was it me that caused the accident and damage? NO!!! but why am i having to be the one with all the grief and inconvenience here?'
you gotta bitch a bit at these tightwads to get em moving
there is 2 slightly newer registered ones on autotrader @ £2050 + £2495 right now so £1500 isn't taking the piss by any means

yeah i agree totaly with you, i had to send links to the adverts and also a few that were on here also..the fact they had more miles on them then my original un rebuilt engine did too..im giving them a ring again tommorow..trouble is im not sure if i will end up shooting myself in the foot if push to much and they repair just the wing and bumper....or get the money and the car and get all the car done..the main aim is for me to get the car back without it being registere a write off...

with regards to the insurance price going up due to a CAT D register, my 16v that i picked up a couple of weeks ago is a CAT C with light rear end damage (repaired) and my insurance only went up a tiny bit, but that seemed to happen cos I went from a group 11 8v gti to a group 14 16v gti. and it was only around £50 a year difference. sounds like you're having a foobaring nighmare mate! as said already, what's the point in paying £1000's in insurance over the years only to get screwed over and left out of pocket when it wasn't even your fault! even if they repair it you could still be out of pocket cos of the excess you'd have to pay! not really fair that!

hey now say that im responsable for all the costs from the body shop for when the collected it and for storage...its about a 140 mile round trip from where i am.. and they said that, that was the only vw approaved garage that will do insurnace work for fleet companies.....
i didnt arrange for the bodyshop to collect, neither did i arrange for a hire car to be deliverd...
so baically im not sure what is going on..
ive sent in information regarding the value of the car and trhe recipts ive had for work done on them but they said they havent recieved the email..so ive sent it again...there just trying everything to wiezle there way out of it
